Manual transmission only offered on three exterior colors (2009)

I was looking for a 2009 Mazda5 with manual transmission and a tan (sand) colored interior. The *only* exterior color I saw was red.

So I checked out the brochure and sure enough, there are only three exterior colors offered on M5s with manual transmission:

silver exterior with black interior
gray exterior with black interior
red exterior with tan interior

Oh well.

I'm just glad they are still bringing MT to the States and Canada. The silver one should rock

It bring a tear to my eye the way the MT is on its deathbed. I often wonder how many 5s are sold with the MT.

I tried to work a deal on a 2009 5 speed manual at my local dealer, but a used 2008 5 with a 5 speed auto was a much better deal. I thought I'd want the manual transmission to better use the engines power when I carry six people. After driving the 5 speed auto I feel that either is a good choice. The auto is butter smooth and will have better resale at the end.

I don't really mind the resale value, better fuel efficiency nor power difference (if any), and whatever value is lost at the end of their life, it is paid with the fun they have provided every day :D

They are just a lot of fun to drive and wife does not want auto cars, so lucky us still sell them in the form of people movers...

Once CVT, DSG and whatever comes next and finally kills MT, then we'll see. In the meanwhile, ZOOM-ZOOM (2thumbs)

By the way,

Just out of curiosity, just checked the MazdaUSA inventory around my area and @50 miles radius there are now 10 2009 Mazda5s with MT...

When I bought mine in 05 and 07, they were one and one respectively, interesting.

We got the AT because my wife drives it daily and doesn't want to shift. It has the "manual mode" anyway which kind of makes up for it. I have 2 other vehicles that are both MT. Of course, she doesn't like driving them too much.

There were 5 in a 50 mile radius when I bought mine this week.

When I was finalizing the deal for my dark gray MT the finance guy said that it was good I was getting the MT as in his opinion they have more oomph (or zoom zoom if you will) than the autos.

Sometimes they let one slip through...

For example, I shop at a local Kroger supermarket where I often see an '08 whitewater pearl/tan interior Touring 5 speed manual. By all accounts, that combination shouldn't exist (it's definitely an '08 with updated lights, facias, moonroof - and it belongs to somebody who works there - I've checked it out multiple times...)

I think somebody else on the forum has a grey '08 Touring 5 speed manual - again a combo that Mazdas says you can't have.

I love my '07 Touring manual and was disappointed they discontinued that model. Mine's Plum Mica, btw, so I guess that model/trans/color configuration makes mine one of the most unusual 5's out there..(burnout)

I also let one slip through from time to time, LOL

Yes, this was a hot topic that came back in 08 here at the forums, I also found 2 Tourings with Manual, but too late and too far for me anyway.

Funny thing is that mine is a Sport with Popular Package and 5MT, another option that officially should not available

That's odd. I just order my 5 on Friday and I wasn't told of any restrictions on colour vs. transmission. Maybe it's a U.S. issue only? The only thing my brochure dictates is interior colour based on exterior colour.
