MAM mid pipe user Q

I have the mam midpipe on my 02 es protege. I used the kartboy hangers and it stopped the pipe from moving but part of the cat sat on the crossmember bar. I used washers to space the crossmember from the rest of the car. It helped a little that I was able to get a feeler gauge between the cat and the bar. After that I used zipties. Three zipties on each metal hanger on the midpipe and tied it to a bar thats above the cat, might be the front swaybar, I forget, but if your under the car you will see what I mean. The zipties raised the cat about an inch from the crossmember. As your using the zipties, push up on the midpipe as your tieing them. I have no rattles anymore. Everything is perfect. I hope this helps everyone out. Any questions, feel free to ask and I'll help if I can.

hmm.. plastic zipties near 500 degree exhaust sounds bad.

I had it on for 500miles with no problems. You got to remember, the zipties are on the metal hangers sticking out from the midpipe, so its not actually on the pipe itself.

guess no MAM midpipe for me.

We need something plug and play.

If we have to go a muffler shop we could as well do a custom job.

bye

But it's not suppose to be so difficult to install it without the funny noize at WOT. It'S made for mazda protege not a another car. YOu can keep the pipe away from the crossmember but if youre cat back is stiff (with kartboy) and your engine mount is soft ( oem one ) all the manifol and j pipe (it fixed on the engine) have to be and keep connect to the cat back. Remerber one is stiff, hard to move and the other part is moving a lot. The flex join is stiff and it's too far away from the engine. Remerber the law of the lever (???) more the lever is long more you can lift a higher weith. It'S the same thing with the mam mid pipe. You have a longer pipe between the engine and the flex . Each time the pipe touch the crossmember .. your manifold or j pipe can broke. It's not good.

I don't know if you have understand all I said b/c I don't speak english very well. If you have any question ask me.

Thanks

^are you speaking of leverage, when you say law of the lever?

so on this note.. anyone want to buy my stainless steel catless MAM midpipe with an 02 bung never installed, for 80 dollars? comes with the bolts and gastket. :) I'm trying to get an RX7 so I dont really want to mess with the protege anymore.

Beau is aware of it. Apparently he made a second generation pipe that was suppose to fit better. I can't speak intelligently on it though, since I never seen it or knows anyone who has it.

MAM Mid pipe

I got my SS MAM Mid Pipe a few days ago. I talked to Beau about it. He said he had to reweld the flanges on the pipes cause they were not correct. I have not installed it yet because it does not come with anywhere to place the o2 sensor, but from its looks it looks good. If anyone wants a pic let me know and I can post them.

o2 bung

Last time I checked mine did not have an o2 bung. I just figured it didn't come with one and that I would have to find someoen to weld it on for me. =/

I see... =/ I guess I forgot to mention that when I placed my order.
So does anyone know where I can get a bung from?

Just go to an exhaust shop by you and bring the midpipe. Ask to have a bung welded onto the pipe. Shouldn't cost to much.
