2003 MazdaSpeed Protege
hey guys, Im pretty sure this has been covered before, but i did a search on mafs and I couldnt find what I was looking for.

I am ordering a HiBoost FMIC Kit. I am having the IC-TB pipe cut for the maf sensor to be relocated there. What I am wondering is has anybody out there actually had the maf fail due to being on the charge pipe, or is it merely speculation at this point? Secondly, are our mafs interchangable with a n/a 2.0l FS maf? if it breaks I figure it will be more cost effective to just go aftermarket ems then get a replacement maf if i cant use a n/a maf. Lastly, how many others are running the maf after the turbo?

Thanks, Jeff

The mafs are all the same between the proteges. And I've had my maf on the pressure side for about 30k miles now with zero problems. However, I think the a/f ratio changes a little with the maf on the pressure side being more lean. I'll find out this sat. for sure.

Leaner is better (power-wise) up to a point......but too lean = BOOM

Richer is safer, but makes less power

I know this thread is old, but I don't seem to see any follkow-up. Does it run leaner? I am also considering on moving the MAF.

Would I feel any difference if I moved it? The reason I am thinking about it is because I think that the CAI that I made for my car is too turbulant and is causing random fuel cut...

i'm not sure why people are moving it other than possibly to run an open vent bov without stalling.....whether or not you're gonna gain any performance from it, i have no clue.

there's a MAF in the for sale section for $40.
Jeff, you're getting rid of the Begi for the Hi Boost?

ya i dont know what happend, i emailed juan if he could make my hiboost fmic with the sensor on the ic to tb pipe, he said ya and gave me the final price. like a week later i tried to get it, but juan wasnt around, i dunno if he maybe had a dyno day or something, but for a couple days a couldnt get ahold of him, and then the begi kit came out, and it better suited my needs (to bad shipping was long and expensive customs cause im in canada) the hiboost kit is still pretty nice though. im a big fan of juans work, especially on those 1.6l proteges, i keep trying to convince my buddy to turbo his 1.6l, but he is one of those fog lights and subwoofers kinda guys, he had a 5.0l before so i guess he has no faith in 4 bangers.
