Just thought i'd share with people I saw a black Lotus Elise today. It was bad ass looking.

Too bad he was going to Wendy's if he keeps on eating like that, he'll be adding at least 50% of the car weight
(evil) (evil)

They are nice, there is one in the Woodbridge, VA area-Green. Lovely cars

Nice car! But; overpriced. I think it will fail in the U.S. And; that will be Lotus's last hurrah here.

I wish it had the k20 honda engine i'd do a lot better.

There's been a yellow one in Minneapolis for a month now

And I don't think its overpriced...It's an exotic for 40K, will probably beat an STI or Evo any day of the week. To put it this way. Would you rather spend 45k on a corvette convertable which you see everyday.
Or...would you rather get the same performance out of a chicks-drop-their-skirts, men drewl with envy, bad ass, very rare, people like me turn around just to get a better look kind of car.

Its 8k more than an s2000 (it's real competition) and it SMOKES that car in every catagory

Really a different engine wouldn't make a huge different, the Elise is plenty fast as is. But beyond the speed of it is the fact the car is so perfectly balanced. Really for under 50k it isn't a bad car. It is actually quite a steal for that price and the caliber of track ready car you are getting.

US market can be funny at times, and unfortunely Lotus may not have the backing to soley focus a single car into this market. What would be nice is they allowed say Toyota since it uses a Celica engine to market the car. Kinda of a special purchase at select dealers.

For $25,000, give me a Beck 550 Spyder. You can have the Elise.

Well..you ain't gettin' an Elise for $25,000. Try about $40,000! (U.S. dollars)

You can always count on AGR to put in his two cents about a "kit car" in threads like this...which I think is great...it's an interesting perspective in terms of automotive alternatives...:D

Thanks Antoine! Not to mention; Chuck Beck's 550 Spyder is 'turn-key' ready to drive for about $25,000.00. It is well proven, and tested the World over. Check out the specs. It's a little Monster with the bigger motor!

yah, I was talking about chicks taking their clothes off

and men drewling, that porsche knockoff doesn't do it for me...at all.

Go buy an Elise...and get laid...a lot.

I was at the Lotus dealership a while back, and they had a black elise ( it was to promote the Elise coming to the US, not actually for sale). Anyway, it was parked between a red Lotus Esprit (which I drove), and a white Lamborghini Diablo. I asked my wife, who does not know all that much about cars, to tell me which car she thought was the least expensive. She picked the Esprit. When i asked her how much she thought the Elise cost, she guessed 110,000. Obviously, she was wrong, but the point is the Elise fits in with exotic cars. If you have not seen on in person, you will be floored once you do. Especially in black. I think I actually preffered it to the Diablo. The Elise is a BARGAIN at 40K, not just for looks, but performance as well.

I'm currently on the waiting list for an Elise down here... and I have STANDING invitation to DRIVE the demonstrator at the dealership whenever I want!!!!!

Say what you like, the car is AWESOME!!!!! Handling is near perfect, the 2zz engine which has nothing down low in the Celica has power EVERYWHERE because the car is so light...

The ONLY worry I have is reliability: Lotus is BAD historically... so I'm keeping my eye on how it does and when my turn to order comes up (in about a year...) I'll make a final decision then...

Oh my God, you are soo lucky man. I am totally in love with the Elise and keep telling myself that I'm going to own one someday. I saw a yellow one in a restaraunt parking lot one night, and stared at it for quite awhile. I was amazed at how wide and low it was in person. They are the perfect sports car. Well tuned mid engine and weighing less than 2000 lbs! It doesn't get any better than that. I read an article in I think it was autoweek, where the editors got to test drive one at a Ferrari track day in Leguna Seca. They said that it was spectacular and all day long the only cars that were able to pass them were F40s and F50s. I thought that that was really cool. Anybody that says the Elise is overpriced obviously does not know much about cars, or has never seen one in person.

I was surfin the web the other day and found a page showing how to install a bov in a lotus elise. Apparently they didn't come with bov or bpv stock. (boom02) This was an older model though, and I don't really know much about the car, I'm guessing they have them now though. Just an interesting fact.

They're not turbocharged...

Anyways, I'd love to own an Elise over just about any kit car other than an Ultima. But if I was on a limit of 25k I'd end up with a K1 Attack. 40 grand and goodbye kit car, hello Lotus.
