Looking for intake options

This is kinda a double post as I think I placed it in the wrong place earlier.

In any case, here is my question:

I own the car in my sig to perform the task of getting me back and forth to work everyday. For that it has done well. I have owned it a little over a year and have had to replace the clutch & timing belt. It has 118,000 miles on the clock.

my question is:
It'll soon be time to replace the air filter and I was wondering what good drop-in filters were out there or inexpensive intake systems. If I have to replace, I don't mind putting a little extra $$ into upgrading for the sake of better performance. I am familiar with K&N, and as I am interested in a cleanable filter, maybe not so much interested in the oily ones due to the problems you can have with sensors.

Are there any other inexpensive or free tricks that can be done to these cars for better mileage or more power without sacrificing mileage? Thanks!

J.D.

I have the AEM shot ram installed on mine, Cleaning isn't bad and as lond as you let the oil dry like the directions say I've never had a problem with it. I've had it on for 3 yrs now. I would also check out Protephile's "blue Light special thread" in the Vendor section, along with his web site. He's always got a special going on filters.

If not there look around in the for sale area, usually will find 1 a month that some one no longer wants.
Also, Don't buy the Ebay style system, stick with a name brand, they just work better and if there's an issue you can send it back.
i hope this helps a little.

yeah i am also looking at possible intakes, though i dont have any turbo in my car for it to support, i have an 02' protege with 130hp and am just starting to work on its performance, i have been looking at the AEM short ram, and wondering if it will make any noticeable difference in performance

huh?

intakes wont make ur 0-60 any faster, youll get better throttle response, and a nice engine note

i have a cold air intake on mine not sure what manufactur it is its bright yellow and carbon fiber it looks to be about a 3 1/2 in to 4 in diameter, was on the vehicle when i bought it. Anyone know whwere it came from? also not to many mods other than suspension but i blew the doors off an mp5 with turbo, it was a sleeper

this is the best kind of 'intake'

barring that, a CAI vs SRI on this car in terms of real world noticable difference between the two is marginal. for the price, you can't go wrong with a decent SRI.

more like 3-4

trust me, it wont change your 0-60 time

Werd... maybe your 0-100 mph times will be a little quicker, but it's not a huge difference. 0-60 mph is more a game of traction and transmission than of power.
