Well me and KYMP5 dyno'd today. Here are the results, graphs to come later. These were all done on a Mustang Dyno (lower than dynojet).

KYMP5
Mods: Intake, Custom Axle-back exhaust

MAX HP: 101.4 @ 6500 RPM
MAX TQ: 97.8 @ 4750 RPM

KYREDP5
Mods: Intake, Jspec Intake cam, Mazdaspeed Exhaust cam, grounding wires.

MAX HP: 94.0 @ 6250 RPM
MAX TQ: 93.4 @4500 RMP

Looks like exhaust and Adustable cam gears are in my future. :D

EDIT: This is the best out of 4 runs for each of us.

the car with all the mods had less HP?

guess i know not to spend on cams now. maybe they're not tuned right? or maybe you need cam gears to max the gains? man, that sucks.

Its probably not tuned correctly...my guess.

damn thats almost 10hp , how can you lose hp with those mods?...guess they are not worth doing..

how hard is it to tune the intake and exhaust cams? obviously in kyred's case, it either made no gains or very little gains. for $400, i would hope to get something better in terms of performance. and what does tuning cams entail?

his were low because the cams were not tuned. with some adjustable cam gears he should make several more horses than me. factory p5's on the mustang were making 89whp so im impressed with the numbers i got. once kyred gets those cams tuned it will be well worth the money he spent on them.

if we scan the graphs and post them you will be able to see how his cams were just starting to make power right before it hit the rev limiter.

You have to remember a mustang dyno is a pretty crappy dyno. It doesn't fair well with engines that like to rev and has hp on top. It can't measure anything past 8500 rpm because at that point its just guessing. Not that I seen a protege rev that high, but thats not the best dyno for our cars.

There's a fewe reasons his cams had little to no gain.
1.Not tuned properly
2.Not a big horsepower engine to start(gains are bigger with more hp to start)
3. The numbers of 19hp estimated for both cams are on a MazdaSPEED, not protege5.
I know this sounds wierd, but his initial spendings on the cams seem useless now, but in the near future, he will benift hugely from them. Especially with exhasut, and adjustable cam gears. Oh, and where are you looking at getting the cam gears????

I'm looking at getting the tripoint cam gears. The opinions of myself and everyone at the shop was my biggest bottleneck is the exhaust. I gained 4WHP by them just taking out the wideband O2 probe. :D So exhaust will be my next proirity.

EDIT: My dyno graph will be up shortly after I get home. ie in a few hours.

yeah the ground kits are pointless unless you tune them on a dyno

now get those gears and get tuning! i am considering new cams and want to see what these yield :D

umm that dyno is bulls***. The car dynos stock @ 96whp. The cams are meant to work together. Also what was the dyno like...was it front wheel, rear wheel or awd. Although KYmp5's dyno looks right..weird..those cams are supposed to work together and i have heard of nice gains from them.

Have you ever heard of a Mustang dyno? Or even read the rest of this post? Unlike Dynojet, Mustang takes load into account, a stock P5 will Dyno around 89 on a Mustang.

We've known for sometime that the cams will not make 19 hp. Those numbers are based on the difference in the Japanese cars vs the American versions, not taking into account the higher compression and the fact the measurement on the Japanese cars was done in ps.

Ground wires are pointless...period.

mustang dynos are used by more race teams because of there real world accuracy. tuners generally perfer them because they tell you what you are putting down on the street not o some rollers with no resistance. anyway as long as you use the same dyno everytime you run you should be pretty accurate.
