Good point Evan, I thought the NASA CCR said something about SFI but it looks like I was wrong. Still good for peace of mind though!

EDIT: By "tube and cloth" I believe they're referring to OEM-style seats that have frames, springs, foam, and cloth stretched over top. Most OEM and "reclineable" aftermarket seats fit this description. It doesn't say anything against using single piece fiberglass, carbon fiber, or kevlar seats though so it doesn't appear to me you'd need an aluminum seat like a Kirkey. It also says "some classes."

Sttus seats are outrageous but oh so comfy

NRG sucks donkey Dick. Hate mine. Any drive for more than an hour and a half is just pure pain

Theirs a new brand called Bimarco which sells a full line of FIA approved seats for dirt cheap. Don't know much about them but it may be worth looking into

Wow I'm surprised to see that NASA doesn't require any SFI/FIA cert on seats...

I have a Sparco Pro 2000 in my Civic, I daily drove it for a few months and it is very do-able. It is great on the track and I was just using an OEM 3 point belt this past season. It is also very comfy, 3 hour drive to the one track the local time attack series races at and I was fine.

I'm working on moving into a new house this month. I don't want to get too excited until I sign the rental papers (realty company is dragging their ASS) but it's got a pretty nice garage so work will continue when I get settled in. :)

In the meantime, I'm still hording parts.

hey, ya gotta do what ya gotta do! can't wait to see some major updates soon mate! i'm sure the new house will help to move the build along- with a nice garage and all. Perhaps insulating and heating it is the first on the list? ;)

fair enough :)

I bought an AEM wide band and NRG hood dampers from CR3 a while ago. Still haven't installed anything. Still adjusting to my new glasses prescription (as lame as an excuse that sounds) so wrenching is kinda weird since I feel dizzy. But again, really looking forward to setting up shop in my own garage next month. LMS will return! Muhaha!

The NASA rules are split because they cover race and HPDE. You can basically run whatever seat you want that is properly mounted if you don't have a roll bar or cage. If you have a roll bar or cage you can have a seat with an SFI/FIA certification that is current (I think its 5 years) without a seat back brace. Any outdated SFI/FIA or non-certified seat has to have a brace in a car with a roll bar or cage.

Thanks for the info, Bill. I'm probably going to order seats this month. I've got the Autopower 4 point roll bar but I see the Corbeaus I want have the threaded nut in the back so I was planning on mounting them with that for added safety. So I should be good for 5 years, right?

Or just add a brace and not have to wory about the 5 year crap. What qualifies as the back brace for a racing seat on a roll cage?

A couple examples.

It looks like most of the seat back braces are for the aluminum seats. I'll rock the Corbeau's for the 5 years then hopefully by the time they are expired the P5 will be full track car and my driver mod will be up to par.

I just looked it up and it is now changed to 10 years for racing and the HPDE section says that even expired FIA seats can be used without a brace even with a roll bar, but the mounting has to comply with the FIA specification.

Well, I decided to pack everything up and sell my car and the KL swap. I just don't have the time with my busy schedule and kids on the way (twins). I'll put up a FS thread soon...
