I think you should do the LSD. I feel like eventually, you will build up the engine and make more power.

Ding Ding Ding we have a winner. It just addas strength so he dose not have issues down the road. (they are prone to shearing off) I did not say lock the gerars. Alot of guys do theis mod that track their cars. Just a piece of mind.

Well I wouldn't get a Mazdaspeed LSD anyway, I would get the MFactory.

In other P5 news, I've got some goodies coming. I bought a used DG carbon fiber hood from a cat in Florida for $280 shipped. He has a brand new one available for $480 shipped if anyone is interested. The one I bought is faded from the Florida sun but I'm going to sand it down and respray some clear on it. For $280 shipped, I just had to buy it. haha

I also bought some new Brembo blank front brake rotors for $50 shipped from Protephile. I noticed I had a little bit of wobble in the steering under braking at higher speeds so I wanted to fix that before Mid-Ohio in April. Though I really haven't noticed it for a few months? Weird...

I was reading some cats have their flywheels and clutch discs balanced together. Is this necessary to prevent vibration or just a good rule of thumb/precaution?

And some magnetic numbers for track days from 247.com member name RSVinylGraphics for $18 shipped. This guys is great and is rediculously fast in production and shipping. I'll take pics of them on the car when i get them this week. Here's a pic he sent me before shipping them.

I might get the whole car re-painted in the fall then have the hood painted to match. But I would need to do some serious rust repair and the I don't want to spend the money on a decent paint job just yet. I want to go fast first.

Definitely. We'll curb the rust with some POR15 and then you can get some big fender flares to hide the area missing from the rust and run huge track wheels or whatever.
 
Fender flare on FWD cars just look weird to me. And I'll probably never have enough HP to justify huge tires anyway. heh-heh

awww dont be hating on the msp lsd lol. With mine welded it has held up great with the v6. 18.5k miles on it and i bought mine used with like 80k on it. However, if you have the cash i agree with the MFactory, but i got mine for $230shipped and my buddy welded it for me for nothing so to me that was a more logical choice when it came to spending money. It has made a total of 3.1 1/4 mile runs sad to say the passenger axle only last that long too :( haha.

As for the balancing, if done the whole rotating assembly should be done at the same time such as crank, rods, pistons, flywheel, clutch, and even crank pulley. Im guessing u could do just the flywheel and clutch together, but doubt u help anything out too much though.
 
No, no, no. No hate for the MSP or their LSD's on my behalf. My good friend has been running his MSP with 100k miles and the stock LSD with lots of track time, no drag racing though. Like he told me, you just have to ease into the throttle.

I don't plan on drag racing my P5 so I wouldn't want to weld the LSD. But kudos to you for getting a good deal on yours and getting it welded for free, Justin.
 
I'm currently trying to figure out the ECU, MAF, O2 set up all figured out... it seems (I'm still researching and verifying things) the KLK1 ECU is the way to go since it is set up for only two O2 sensors. I don't really want to use the KL47 ECU since I will have to have two extra O2 sensor bungs welded in so I can run the extra two O2 sensors, then use the non-fouler trick with them since I'll be catless.

And I just read that since my KLK1 ECU came with my motor that was an automatic that it won't work with my 5-speed. But I read elsewhere that the automatic transmission Milly's and Xedos9's were run from a different tranny module seperate from the ECU. Moooooore research tonight.

like rob said before your not welding the diff your just welding around the bolted section to add strength to help add strength to keep it from breaking

even i know what they are talking about and im not a protege guy lol :P
 
How about this for the end of the conversation then; I aint welding s***. I'm buying an MFactory if I decide to go with an LSD. haha
 
go mfactory and get an LSD...

if an LSD wasnt so expensive for my car id put one in...

after the clutch and flywheel install ive had some issues keeping the power on the ground and my 3 wont have the torque your v6 will... as much as id love to see if swapped as soon as possible, i say do it right and get an LSD

so after some searching apparently the 3 has a g-series transmission as well and i could get an mfactory LSD as well... hmmmm now thats a thought :D
