Lean mixture problem: Turbo

:
12psi Protege5
Need help. since yesterday my turbo P5 wants to run LEAN only on HalfThrottle to WOT. Partial Throttle will run RICH all the time. But as soon as I ask for more power, It drops down to LEAN 16:1 the car buckles a bit when building boost, and acceleration is very poor, It even feels like the car is braking instead. Partial throttle boost accelerates faster than WOT.

How I know Im running lean?

Greddy A/F is showing 14:1-16:1 ratio and EGT starts to climb faster.

My current setup is:

Boost line connected from compressor to Wastegate thru the JoeP MBC and a T connection to the FMU BEFORE the MBC.

After doing some testing, disconecting the MBC, only conecting the Compressor to the FMU and wastegate still the same. But at 4.5psi runs rich, but as soon as I raise the boost to 6psi or more, WOT will run LEAN.

Last test I did, connected the FMU to the manifold vacumm, where I feed the Signal Modifier and Boost gauge and now i have better numbers but they are near 13:1 A/F.

All 3 weeks before i was running very rich, Greddy A/F was showing 8:1 - 12:1.

Any suggestion?

Are you still having this problem?
You are definetly running way lean if you are still getting those readings on the greddy a/f meter

Im going to test today.

Im going to reset ecu, use vacumm from manifold to fmu and MBC from compressor to wastegate dedicated.

I think he is having an issue with him t ing off his boost controller that goes to his FMU vacum line thus cutting ff his fuel supply

as of today (1st day test)

Dont know how much boost im running, maybe 7psi or a bit more. Im now using the green spring (4.5psi minimum) for the turbonetics deltagate and that thing is opening very soon (nasty sound of venting pipe) even if im boosting 7psi.

Today I had rich readings and a lot of clutch slip hehehe. So Im happy. I spanked a Tiburon V6.

2 hard runs of about 15 seconds, RICH.

I will see tomorrow.

Im going to change that spring too.

hmmmmmmmm

Lean issue solved, 2 days running rich enough.

Deltagate Spring changed, now using the grey one. Good for 7-9psi. Actually boosting 6-7psi.

But I notice today @ Bright DAY that my car is throwing blue smoke, (maybe turbo a bit dammaged after my first oil feed issues)

maybe the new spring is stressing a bit more the turbo making it spool up faster thus pushing oil thru the exhaust?

I dont know...I need advise firts, before I get to turbo to repair. What If it continues smoking after the repair?
:(

how do you know if its black or blue, i mean how can you tell, is it pretty obvious or does it just look a tinge lighter than black...kinda worried cause mine smokes a bit so i need to know, thanks

by the way, whats MBC mean?

"Manual Boost Controller"
It is merely a "bleed valve" that is installed between the turbo and the wastegate.

You can tell, Blue smoke is...clear blue-grey
Black smoke, is....just black.

blue smoke smells like burning oil
black smoke smells like burning gas
white smoke smells different

Are you sure about that? I thought the black smoke was like yellowish-green! :D

Sorry, I have the same problem so I can joke about it right?

(scratch) hmmm "green" yellow? are you sure? (freak)

jajajaajaajaj

I will need to repair the turbo, The oil pressure dammaged the seals. So, the repair consist on replacig all oil seals inside turbo.
Cost...?? dont know....someone told me $200

A rebuild kit is 250 dollars. What happned to your seals? PM me maybe we can warranty it thru garrett

Im not really sure, but my car is smoking blue....a lot. How this could be. And it its blue. And its 100% of the time when cruising...and 50% of the time on idle.

And the response from the fuel is slow sometimes, for example: If im in 2nd gear @ 2000 rpm, push WOT, boost starts to build, rich condition, but as soon as I reach max psi (6psi) will go lean, the pull is ok, but as I rev up to 5000rpm RICH comes back again and then I feel some kind of vtec opening and the car pulls a lot more. (with blue smoke)

Then....upshift, a curtain of blue smoke....and so on.

do you have pics of how the cartridge is clocked can you post them?
What is your oil pressure?
do you have a guage?Do you have a restrictor in line yet?
If its smoking that bad at cruising speeds you may have a serious problem with the seals but im amazed that it was caused by the oil pressure and not a defect. ( im not saying its not possible but s*** not every car is having this problem ) Theres alot of things it COULD be igdrasil. You need to check the above mentioned items that i posted. And then you can diagnose it. At 5000 rpm your secondary intake plates are opening and you feel a slight kick after a millisecond of power drop. Its normal but after further inspection of this protege dual stage manifold its really a bad design and VERY restrictive.

Yes what Perf said.
This sounds like either a possible oil drainage issue, improper center housing setup or perhaps....................ahhhh wait, I remember you saying that when you intially ran the car the center housing was upside down(feed on the bottom and drain on the top) This could have damaged your seals :(
Is this what happned

I'm listening and waiting. . .this isn't too different from what I have and I have a guage and a restrictor and all sorts of stuff like that, but I also leak oil outside the turbo as well as into the compressor and turbine. Hmmm. . .

The fuel thing might just be the pump. I have a ton of pressure with the inline in place. If you're going lean at max boost that could be the pump. Just can't keep up.

1. 18,572 miles (1500aprox turboed)
2. I dont have any oil pressure gauge nor restrictor, will take pics in a few minutes.
3. Yeah center housing was upside down when installed and ran like that about 20-30 miles. This was corrected, running perfect until 2 days ago. This is the only reason I see that could have damaged the seals.

Starting Today, this car will be stopped for the following 2 weeks until I solve all mayor issues, including clutch. Will take this time to install rear awr mount and remove those secondary intake plates....if the money reaches:D
