Just installed Pioneer 3way 6x8, need advice!

I just installed a pair of Pioneer 3 way 6x8s I got real cheap because of an "open box" discount :D Not really the pair I was after but definetly satisfied with the outcome, very clear high and mids, and the bass is much smoother than with the stock speakers.

I don't want to invest a lot of money in completing my system, so I'm not sure what direction to take. I'd like to put some blaupunkt PCxt693 6x9s in the back, they seem like good bang for the buck. Any one have experience with them?

Also, I'd like more power, but I don't really want to bow 300$ on a 4 channel amp, so I'm considering powering up one pair of speakers with a 2 channel amp and leaving the other on stock HU power. I'm kinda torn between what pair I should hook up... Logic would dictate that the 6x9s have the potential to give me more bass because they are bigger and aren't as confined as the 6x8s are in the doors, but they seem to be in a bad location to get good highs & mids in the direction of the front passengers.... What to do?

Finally, what's the best budget amp out there? I was looking at the lightning audio bolt series, and some entry level pionner / kenwood stuff, orion... any recommendations?

Thanks

well we are going to assume you are still using the stock head unit here....and since you are talking about putting 6 X 9's in the rear...you must have a sedan too.

YES, you can use more power....seeing as how the stock headunit only puts out about 10 watts/channel at the BEST....so how about pushing that out to 40 watts/channel..and that is RMS?

YES, and we are talking for only about $200....not the $300 you quoted.

Get an ALPINE V-Power series amp....4 channel 40 watts X 4 or 100 watts X 2 (bridge it) this amp is $200.

it also has speaker level inputs which you will need using the stock head unit. it also has the RCA inputs in the event you do have an aftermarket headunit...or get one later which has preouts.

the part number for this amp is MRP-F200

personally I have the 5 channel version of this amp, running the stock headunit...and have a sub in the back as well.....it rocks. I think you would be very happy with the set up.

Man that was quick! Sorry I forgot to mention that I had a sedan...!

I'm in Canada too, I was refering to our local monopoly money for the 300$ ;) The alpine is well beyond 300$ canadian everywhere I have looked here, and most 4 channel amps that aren't make by koss or jensen are right up there in the 250+ range, a little pricey for my taste, I don't want a killer competition system, just something that'lll keep me awake while during my commute to work at the asscrack of dawn ;)

Thanks for the input, I really appreciate it

sir nuke, do you have any pics of your system and what kind of speakers are you running? i am thinking of making a similar system, nothing outrageous just something that sounds good and has decent bass. thanks

Go no cheapeer then the alpine!
The other stuff you mentioned is junk. Wait till you can afford real equipment or it won't be 3 months before you wish you had.

Also I would power the front speakers with the amp not the rea.
The rears may give more midbass but no more bass as niether speaker is a subwoofer. You want bass get a sub otherwise send the most power to the fronts as they will creat the soundstage and the rears being mounnted so high need no power to be loud.

well the only picture I have is of the amp install...Here....I have made a little change and that is I have since gone back and hidden the wires coming from the sill to the amp and the amp to the ground and out them UNDER the carpet so you can't see them.

ampinstall2.jpg

As for the door speakers I used Rockford Fosgate speakers in both the front and rear doors...the fronts are FRC3257's which are 5 X 7's and the rears are FRC 3206's which are their 6 1/2".

for the sub I used the JL Audio 10W0 Powerwedge (model # CS110R-WO)

its not outrageous....and it sounds great....I typically don't crank it up over half way...well sometimes....it thumps plenty hard for me being in the car.

Hi,

As Sir Nuke & 1st MP3 already mentioned, get a good amp, so don't just disregard the Alpine because it's already above CA$300, maybe you can find a good deal in ebay, and with a brand like Alpine your chances are bigger...

About the 6x9 coaxials in the rear deck, those aren't real woofers, so you may have a little bit more bass, but not like a woofer or 2, and if you use the power from a 2 ch. amp for those, by the time you start feeling some bass, the mids and highs will be so overwhelming, you won't have any more front stage!.

I'm not sure nowadays, but somet time ago, 6x9 inch infinite-baffle woofers were available, so those could give you a little bit more and deeper bass than regular coaxials (still not as good as real subs), without the mid and high frequencies that can destroy your front image.

Regarding the amp, if definitely you can only go with a 2 ch., use it for the front speakers... Hi-Fi = Stereo = Good Front speakers. But a 4 ch. amp would be better since later you'll be able to power a woofer bridging 2 of the amp's channels.

Later,
FEDE.
:p

By the MRP-F200 alpine is discontinued so there are deals to be had on it.

Sir Nuke, if you don't mind me asking, how much did your setup cost?

I am interested in doing something along those lines, but I am not sure if I trust my electrical (ie. wiring) abilities to do it myself, as opposed to letting the guys at circuit city have a go. Thanks!

Cool. :)
It might be worth that, just to assure that I don't screw anything up..

now that is what the INSTALL would cost.....all the equipment that I got and with the wiring kits....that was just shy of $700

That's about what I was figuring give or take a little. I was curious for the materials to begin with, but 1stMP3inNH got me interested in the install cost as well. That looks like an awesome setup Nuke! Thanks for the help!

I am with sir nuke on this one, I have that exact amp powering a 10 inch type s alpine sub and the same pioneer speakers as you are now in the front.
my deck powers the back speakers and that is good enough for now,
though I find the speakers lack in mid range bass.
That is why i am getting a pair of type r componets for the front.
