Just a Caution - After You Get UR CX-5 Home

Checked my tyre pressures today after 1700miles since new. All were at 45psi!!

Another example of poor PDI at dealer. It does not inspire confidence. My daughter bought a 6 month old Citroen about 18 months ago and recently had it serviced. She was told that she needed 4 new tyres on a car with only 6000 miles on the clock! I told her it was likely to be due to over-inflated tyres from new.

After I buy a car I ALWAYS check the tyre pressures, oil level, water level and screenwash. I had my fingers burned after buying a Fiat Bravo (bang) in 2007. When I got home the incorrect windscreen wipers had been fitted and nearly flew off when operated as they were loose, the screenwash was low so I topped it up and it leaked from the washer bottle all over the drive. I took it back the same day I bought it and they fitted the correct wiper blades and ordered a new washer bottle as the existing one had a split in it. It turned out to be the worst car I ever bought as the diesel engine kept juddering as though it was being starved of fuel, the alloy wheels were replaced due to corrosion after 6 months and the interior light/overhead console kept falling off dangling by the wires. The dealer never did fix the engine juddering as nothing ever showed up on the computer so I traded it in for a Citroen C5 after 18 months. This was actually a very nice car, quiet, totally reliable and no squeaks or rattles. I only changed it due to back problems starting and the seat did not provide the necessary adjustment anymore.

Leaving the tyre pressure checking for 1,700 miles is a bit risky and I would have thought the ride would have been a bit hard compared to the test drive?

With regards to the Citroen had the tyre pressures ever been checked from when bought?

45 psi is not going to hurt the tires. It might make the ride a bit harsher though, and also give you better mpg with the decrease in rolling resistance. I have 57K miles on mine and they've been at 45 psi for at least 45K of those miles.

I beg to differ. Over-inflation is likely to cause uneven wear - particularly in the centre of the tyre.

Yes I will not be running my tires at 45 pounds expecting best wear, handling or ride.

My dealer had a great trick. The deflated the tires and reinflated with Nitrogen (or so they say) and charged me $35 for it. At that point, my trade-in has disappeared around the corner and the insurance is done, not going to kill a sale over $35 - but it sure shows how dealers scam. Next time I am asking all kinds of questions before I hand over any cash or keys!

Dealerships are so scummy in my experience. Same thing happened with me but with window etching for 200.00. Trade in was gone - papers were almost done. They said we need 200.00 for window etching.
The deal was amicable until that point....I started to say "no deal - I'd like my trade in back."

They caved.... unhappily. We win.

Couldn't agree more. Once had a bad tire inflation guage (one in a million I guess) that I used to inflate tires for almost a year. Result significant wear in the around the middle of the tire!!
