JosueP5's '03 Protege5 Build Thread.

good to see that you got your gauges to change colors when the lights are on!

It was a BIG relief! haha I was so annoyed that I couldn't get it when everyone else could! I'll have to update the thread I started in case someone else is having the same problem.

Couple cool shots at Mid-Ohio on Saturday...

Jerk. lulz

I'm glad you're hooked on the track. It's amazing. You should look into a Hyperdrive next year. $60 for 20mins of track time. You can borrow my helmet. You'll be hooked for sure. haha

Yeah... that's usually how it starts. For me, it started after chasing DaveB around when he was doing a lot of track events at Mid-Ohio. I got a ride along in his instructor's car, and the rest is history. But... I've also been able to suppress my urge in the end. I think it's because I'm kept too busy to think about it.

Yea, the expenses are already adding up, and I haven't even committed to an event yet! lol

Brake work (pads, rotors, fluid, maybe SS lines pending price) and track time alone would be hundreds of dollars. Borrowing a helmet would save some money for now, but what if we were all on the track at the same time? And I still wonder if the condition of my tires is ok. Definitely don't have the money to buy a new set this year.

Gotta pay to play. If I could be in to racing RC cars, I totally would. But we don't really get to choose what we're passionate about. Unfortunately auto racing is expensive. But SO much fun.

You can always find used wheels/tires for great prices. Just ask Ivan. ;)

Haha very very true. I got really lucky with my wheels for both track and winter. The Rays I bought are each over 400 dollars a piece and the set of tires on them are approximately 600. I bought a $2000 set of wheels and tires for 550 shipped. My winter wheels and tires cost $1100 all together and I spent $400.

I look at all the for sale sections a few minutes a day and check out what seems good. The deals are out there. I will be getting into the whole track thing at the same time you will so I'm just as new at all of it haha.

Everyone was getting a boner over your rust-free P5 at the corral. It's in such good shape, and I can't think of a better person to have it, as I know you'll maintain it!

Haha....I feel thuper special now!!

Hopefully I can keep it looking good through these winters. I bought a set of Hankook iPike winter tires on steelies from my neighbor's brother (sold his p5), and every time I glance at them in the basement, I shudder a little bit.

I also get annoyed at all the door dings on the car. It's clean, rust wise, but pretty much every panel has a ding/dent in it! I'm not about to fix and repaint the whole car though, I might just get them PDR'd one day so they're not as much of an eye sore...

had a setup exactly like that for the winter for my P5. Those are good tires. Got me through 2 winters before I sold the car. Still had a s*** ton of tread left too.

I hope they fit! They're about an inch taller than my current setup, but the offset probably isn't as wide, so I should be fine.

I need to test fit them to make sure. Probably should've done that before buying, but his p5 was lowered too, so I figured it'd be fine.

Oh they'll fit, my winter tires are even bigger (185/70R14) and they fit great!

Welcome to the big-mud-tire club :D
