Japanese plate

Hi new here to the forum, I recently bought a 11' mazda 2 and have been getting into small mods for the time being. I was wondering if the plastic piece on the front bumper is removable and if so could I mount a Japanese plate to it.

The rectangular plastic piece on the front bumper pops off and there are a bunch of holes that don't line up with American license plates.

No front plates in Michigan?

In theory to mount an American front plate you either drill holes in the body or the plate itself or buy a $75 bracket. I made my own from a block of aluminum.

Thanks I just needed to know if it comes off, I want to mount a Japanese plate on the front for aesthetics. Now I just have to find a site that sells them. Does anyone know if the holes will line up for a Japanese plate?

the holes will not line up for a JDM plate, I use an accessory that is like a plastic adapter, cost me 10 dollars more less in the shop...

Just to let you know, the term "Japanese" is generally considered to be a derogatory term. Perhaps you could use the letters JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) if you do not wish to use the term "Japanese".

My bad, I've never heard anyone take offense to it but if a mod would like to change it thats cool and thank you Matrixxx. Where did you pick up that bracket. Nice ride btw similar to how I'm trying to get mine setup.

Wow. Seriously? I doubt there was one other person that visited this thread that thought to themselves, "'Japanese plate'?! That's RACIST!"

I am a JDM lover, without any intention of offending, it is good to know..

I bought the bracket in a local store in my country

Actually, there is at least one other who thought that it might be open to misinterpretation.

By itself, I wouldn't see it as intentionally racist, especially coming from someone who bought a Japanese car. However, there have been occasions when it has been used as a slur. In the bigger picture, in the history of mankind there hasn't been any term that hasn't, at one time or another, been used improperly to lessen the status of others. Gender, age, country of birth, ethnicity, religion, politics, etc, etc, etc......

Just as we caution those to be careful around others who may have just suffered a personal loss, so as not to say anything without thought, this is just one area where we need to be careful to respect others.

One of the problems with the internet is that you can't hear the tone of what people are saying. It just means we need to be even more careful in our approach and selection of terms. Believe me, I've suffered from fumble fingers myself..... many times.

P.S. As a white, over-weight, old guy, of Irish Catholic heritage who worked in a Federal Law Enforcement position for 33 years, I'm extremely grateful nobody ever said anything demeaning about any of that<LOL>

Alright, thanks again. I'll have to take it off this weekend and see how I'm going to fan dangle the plate on there.

Which plastic piece are we referring to? All I have is the empty square where a front tag would go.... would be kinda nice to a filler for it actually.

Oh and this.

When I first saw the title of this thread I didn't get offended personally, but it did stick out at me and I thought "that's not cool."

Yeah, let's just drop it. The OP didn't mean anything by it, no one should have ripped him for it, I shouldn't have put my 2 cents in, and everyone alive today is conditioned to be completely overly sensitive to everything.

Can everyone just dry their tears and limit the posts in this thread to relevant info on how the OP can mount his Japanese Domestic Market License Plate to his Mazda 2?

Take a look at this Corksport license plate kit photo that shows the front of the car. A couple inches below the (M) emblem on the hood is a black rectangular blanking plate located in the top middle of the grill. Pretty horizontal in shape. The plate 'pop's off' with a bit of yanking and there are a series of mounting holes under it. The holes don't fit anything that I know of.

If I recall correctly, the dealer told us that the blanking plate came with the car. He also 'thought' that there was an actual bracket ($75) available to mount the license plate in the spot that the blanking plate goes. Apparently most dealers just drill a couple holes in the bumper and screw the plate on.
