It was going so good....

I dont know. Most cops DO hate when you have a radar detector, but thats usually because it comes across to them that regardless of what the speed limit is, you're "saying" that you wont obey that. Not to say that you'll automatically speed just by having a radar detector, but why HAVE one unless you PLAN on breaking the law and speeding? Thats why people get those.

Anyhow, you should've gotten a warning to fix the two minor things. And this will probably boil your blood more.... but when we pull your registration from the DMV system, it automatically says if you have insurance or not and even gives your policy number and name of your insurance company. In other words, he shouldn't have had to see if you had it with you or not because he already knows if it shows that you're insured. lol

But it is a violation not to have either proof of insurance on your person or having your plate where it may be obstructed from view. I think they'd go for the plate being properly put on the front now rather than now having your card on you. Having your card on you NOW doesnt help you since it needed to be with you at the time. But both arent "moving" violations so points shouldn't be accessed. If each citation is $200+ each, then pay $150 for a lawyer to get it reduced for lesser charges. You still wont have to go to court.

Call the clerk, tell them you want to contest the tickets and set a later court date. Go rafting come back and hope the cop does not show to the court date.

Actually.........if you get any ticket "dismissed", no matter what the charge....you dont have to pay a dime. Just grab the paper and tell em to kiss your ass.

you still have to pay for court fees.

so in the end, you end up losing money.

I have a friend that has a 02 protege es it is real real nice es .He stop at a store to get someing to eat and a cop roll by and seen that he had no license plate light. So the cop gave him hell about it,he yell at the cop and the cop tow his car ... When they tow it the tow driver drop his car and no one is paying for it at all.... So he is going to sued tow driver and his insurance comp. And tow driver insurance comp to...

Still working on it, I am going to send in a letter and some pics, but thats about it, as well as the money , and i might get some back.

Off topic: I remember watching something on the news about oregon having an unusually small amount of state patrolmen. Like one on duty at any given time. Is this true.

Good luck with your ticket.

Yeah i think it was on Farenhiet 9/11 of some movie, we really do not have many OSP police, but the majority of what we have are really nice guys, and they dont make money on giving us tickets all the time. The only real patrol men that do us justice.

I got a ticket for this in my RX-7. I couldn't get it droped "due to my record".....

I don't have a plate on my MSP either. I'm an outlaw.

I have been trying to change the date for my trial for the past week, but all i get is this automated service bs, so i guess i will have to go in tomorrow, I am just pro-longing the inevitable, but since i have no current Insurance card, because i am a asshat and lost the new one, i had to call them and request i new one, and it wont be here till thursday, and court is on monday, so i am trying to postpone it another month. I can pretty much say i dont think the plate thing will be dropped becuase of my record, but i am sure the insurance will be.

Yeah ben how many tickets do you have?

Around 10, but there's only one on my record now. I've learned as the years have gone by. :)

The last one I got was in Dale's Protege 5... I was pulled over for driving while Asian, but the cop couldn't exactly write a white guy up for that so I got speeding instead. :-/

Insurance should not be affected if you are convicted of this... Well, I don't know the current laws on this stuf. But none of my "mod tickets" ever cost me anything beyond the fine (noise pollution exhaust, noise pollution stereo, illegal color lights x2, no front plate, tint).

Good luck though!

I never updated on this, I got both of them thrown out, I didnt even have to go to trial. Had a nice good looking younger clerk help me, and I put the schmooz on hard, and I had a picture of my car with the plate mounted properly and my old insurance card, and she completely threw it out, and nothing after that. So all that worry. And nothing. I love portland. They dont have to support there infrastructure with petty fines. Good stuff for me, especially when a Rolls Royce grill for a 1962 SC2 costs $850, need as many bones as possible.

Success!!

actually, the purpose of getting one for me wasnt so that i could excessively speed. however, i do tend to cruise at 5 over the posted limits frequently (who doesnt) which is cool to some cops but will get you a ticket with some of the other dickhead cops in this area. so when it goes off, a quick tap of the brakes slows me down the 5mph to comply with the posted limit. my detector also warns me of upcoming construction zones which is nice to have since sometimes they will close a lane without warning.

Jose, has your detector ever actually done that? Most of the time I hear people saying that their detector never goes off for stuff like construction and emergencies.

Ghost, glad to hear it all worked out.

Congrats!

I bought one of those spendy Escort detectors for when I went to CA last (Protege Fest last year actually). Because I knew there was no way I was driving to San Diego and back in a weekend and keeping it near the speed limit. I ended up getting a ticket anyway, but I think he just saw me going fast. That detector did very well however.

You guys seen these? http://www.lidatek.com I really need to invest in one. We now sell their product after we were introduced to it at a trade show. The demonstrations are amazing.
