It was bound to happen

Man that sucks bro, makes me hesitant about going boosted this summer... good luck with the rebuild

Don't be hesitant, just do it right. Learn from the mistakes of others.

The correct way is to watch the wideband?! What do you mean by do it the right way? I will know my AFR's since I have a wideband but aren't there other factors as well?

sucks man, we are in the same boat!! I'm going forged with the MAM block and possibly stroker crank but not sure yet, I'm waiting to hear more about it and for MAM to get back to running 100%. Hope to hear about this thing back on the road soon!!

jors car blew due to a bad tune and 5th gear. its fine to boost in 5th but when the car isnt really tuned for what it was running then to throw 5th it just helps the madness. o well joe u joined my club. lol
joes will come back soon. im going to make sure of that

i used to boost in 5th gear all day long, WOT, on a stock motor and not a thing happened. with an FMU no less.
Same here. I've been boosting 11psi on stock internals, WOT every gear for the past 3 years. I've never really been worried about it. Good luck with everything...

That sucks. But I have to say, I'm a HUGE advocate of track racing NOT street racing. It strikes a nerve with me when I see those videos because it only takes one misjudgement to get someone hurt, either yourself or a bystander. Especially when parts are flying everywhere on the highway.

Other than that, who did the tune again? You had the MPI right? I didnt know you weren't forged. I wouldn't have boosted that high on a T3. 10 Psi comes out to what... about 15 psi on a T25 due to the ccfm's of the bigger turbo?

Come on Lara you know who tuned my car. The Same guy that did your haltech. Yep no internals. I didnt't turn up the boost purposly. When I was open downpipe (for about 2 weeks now) I realized that it would hold 8 1/2 psi and then after about 5500rpms the boost gauge would creep up to 10 psi to redline.

None of you were harsh with your explainations of what I did. Maybe I didn't take the right steps. But I did have the car semi street tuned and dyno tuned. But as Cwill said, 5th really wasn't touched. I was tuned with a wideband, the afr's were ok, but not perfect. The person that tuned my car specializes in the haltech. My car was the first that he ever touched with the mpi piggy back. Every other shops that I tried wouldn't do it/ or said they wont be able to tune it. I was in the process of having someone come down here to Florida to tune the car the RIGHT way, but know thats out the door.

But when I was tuned at 8 1/2 psi and then it starts creeping to 10 1/2 psi, I think that is a major factor. So all the people safely running 10psi, I believe it and am happy for you to be enjoying your car. But I was not tuned for 10+psi.

Well, watch the road, but keep an eye on the wideband. ;)

What do you mean by do it the right way?

Just make sure the car is tuned well, and consistently.

I will know my AFR's since I have a wideband but aren't there other factors as well?

Timing and EGT. But timing is kind of "set it and forget it"...and you generally don't have to watch EGT unless you're doing high speed pulls.

That explained alot.

Damn, ok, I didn't know he did your MPI tune too. I probably forgot.. I have A.D.D. sometimes. lol But I thought he was going to tune the Haltech if you bought it, I didnt know he did the MPI as well. I'm slowwwwwww.

If it makes you feel any better, when my rings were going and there was smoke coming out the back... I was only doing 6-7 psi daily and no overboost in 5th...... EVER... and never took it to the track. All it took was a day at the dyno and then whammo. I'll telling you man, you just can't win sometimes with these cars. This will be my last Mazda. I'm going with the GTI for my next car -either that or I'm getting the Fit from Honda. They're just so damn cute... and let's not forget economical. Thats very important nowadays. :D

fit...no.....................!!!!!!! lara...that's an old persons car...wait a minute!!!!

hahaha...

yo momma... :p

Besides, if I wanted an old peoples car, I'd go with a sky blue buick. Then I'd f** up the bumper, bend the antenna and drive around with a handicapped placard. Therefore insuring that people will steer clear of me.

Lara a FIT?! MSP > FIT Well it IS a honda and you can economize by changing the oil and just go with water. The car will run...i've seen people do it!! More on topic...Thanxs for the info KOOLDINO, again so organized.

No afr's. I had the car tuned at 8 1/2 psi. But since open dp the car was hitting 10 1/2. But, from the begining the tune for the 8 1/2 was below average.

2 more psi of pressure doesn't typically lend itself to a stochiometric mixture. Next time get the car tuned on FI maps, and leave it there.

jomo is now a member of the zoom-zoom-boom club unfortunately. sucks that you blew the motor man! hope you get it up and runnin again soon

I should have it back in about a month or a little more. I already talked to my builder in miami, and am getting a built block and a few other goodies. I am also going to be selling the mpi and extra injectors in the next few weeks when I take them out.
