Hey guys, I just purchased a MP3 @ 118,xxx last Saturday. I've got the code
P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1).
I was at the Mazda dealership and they quoted me $1300 to replace just the catalytic converter. For $1300 I can get a whole new aftermarket exhaust system. I've been reading around and haven't seen any specific brand that is used. I was thinking of the OBX Stainless Steel Race Header - Protege 2.0 Liter [H2020] for sure a header, but as for which exhaust system, which one do you guys prefer or recommend? I am planning on keeping her as an NA tune for now, and the Turbo will probably come later when I have a better budget.
Also what intake do you guys recommend? I read that the K&N Typhoon Cold Air Intake [696020TS] was the way to go, but you have to clean it every so 1000 miles? I was leaning more toward the Injen Cold Air Intake - 2.0 Liter Engine [rd6060p]
What do you guys prefer/recommend? I guess I also read that the cold air intakes don't really matter as they do the same thing?
