According to the sticky, the 8w3v3 is too deep and need to fabricate a spacer. Should I add a rubber gasket or foam gasket to keep it from rattling? I don't know if it's necessary, but I don't know if just bolting it to the stock closure will keep it from rattling.

Ya i installed a jl 8w3v3. Its too deep, so my friend and i made a spacer out of wood. Then we used weather stripping to keep it from rattling.

A bead of silicon cauck is sufficient but weather stripping works too.

Note: I'm moving this to the MSP section since I assume you are talking about replacing the stock subwoofer.

Awesome. How do you like the sub? Also would it be beneficial to put weather stripping/silicon around the whole thing and make it air tight? Thanks for moving the thread.

are u gonna use the stock amp? The stock amp pushes the jl fine but the amp heats up real quick, i would recommend getting a better amp. Ya i did both weather stripping and silicon. you deff want to make it air tight. It doesnt sound bad, except that the stock box is plastic and theres alot of rattling, so i stuffed the inside of the box with cotton.

Yeh I'm gonna use stock amp. It heated up like crazy before with my older 8w3 too. Do you have any pictures of how/where you applied the silicon?

Ya i can try to take some this weekend. But it might be hard to see because i painted the spacer black to blend in with the box. But i can try. Have you thought of just getting a new sub and box like a 12 or something? its pretty easy to put one in. But the jl 8w3 is pretty beast i liked it.

Thanks man. How thick of a spacer was needed? I've thought about getting a bigger sub, but since the rest is stock and I don't have the funds to upgrade everything, I think the 8w3 is my best bet. Also since the stock amp can operate at 4 ohms, I'm gonna keep pushing it till its dead lol

Well, the kenwood amp can run at 120w on 4 ohm and only 80w on 8 ohm. So that alone is why i'm getting the 4 ohm. I don't know the difference other than that

i think the spacer is around 1-1.5 inches thick, also the weathstripping is also gonna add to the thickness ya i tried to do that but the jl 8w3 can be pushed to 250 rms. soo ur gona pop fuses before the amp dies. so i just gave up and upgraded to a 12. so the jl8w3 has alot more potential than what the stock amp is gonna push, u could always just upgrade to a better amp. ya the lower the ohms the more power.
