OK, so here is a topic I am not really opinionated about- It doesn't seem like a big deal to me to allow others into this country, especially since this is what we are founded on. However, it seems to be a pretty sore subject with some. What views do you all have and why?

It's not a big deal to you because you live in COLORADO! They don't even let tan white people in your state. Come to Texas. Where whites own 95% of the wealth and land and are redefining urban sprawl in new and HORRIFING ways. While all the time the overall population is becoming majorly Latino. It's gonna be a huge issue soon. There are going to be Huge Million dollar shopping malls dormant and surrounded by property that is in 17 different price ranges. It's gonna suck.

I have no problems with legal immigrants, those that apply for visas, wait 3 years to get them while through background checks are performed, and learn the English language. The problem with Bushs plan is the fact that we would be rewarding criminals for their criminal behavior: entering our country illegally, income tax evasion, false ids, stolen/illegal ss#s, etc.. If an American commits tax evasion or identity theft, we are looking at serious jail time, these people will be rewarded for it. In addition, under Bushs plan, illegal immigrants will be able to collect ss in 18 months while Americans must pay into the system a minimum of 10 years before we can collect. SSs future is already questionable, this will surely bankrupt the system. Also, the burden they are placing on the medical system. If they need medical assistance and go to the er, the hospital will eat the cost of their treatment which in turn is causing some hospitals to find themselves in financial trouble and is causing our health insurance premiums to increase. If we refuse to pay for our medical treatment, hospitals can get a legal judgement and garnish our wages. How do you do that with illegals who are working under the table? Plus, the argument that illegals only take jobs that Americans refuse to work is misleading. Under Bushs plan, all these illegals will fall under the protection of affirmative action and they will be taking away jobs that Americans are working. We already have an unemployment problem, this will just make it worse. Plus, if you reformed the welfare system, rewarding those that work, punishing those that dont, Im sure the jobs will be filled.

I'm VERY opinionated on the subject....most just call me a racist though.
Bush a damn fool. I whole-heartedly agree with "MP5". It's one thing for us to keep our borders open to people who come here to better themselves. It's another to open our borders to people who only want to beneift from the tax dollars of others. Do you guys honestly think that this influx of mexicans is going to decrease our crime rate? Do you think many if any of them will immediatly volunteer for military duty to "earn" their citizenship? All they want to do is live here, use our hospitals, use our jobs and not pay any damn taxes.
Would I be this upset if there was a surge of Japanese immagrants. Not at all. When was the last time you saw a japanese person on cops beating his wife, smoking crack, fighting.....NEVER. We need to let people into the club who are looking to play by the rules and play nicely.
AARRGGHH!!! I'm all worked up now. I could go on for hours about this, but I will refrain. The point is there is a direct corralation between the number of mexicans in our country and the number of criminals, beggars, etc in our country. I'm tired of having to play by the rules and these illegal immagrants don't. They are no better than me. How dare they abuse the system that I try to support and contribute NOTHING to the same system from which their stealing.
Now I wanna go out and punch a mexican!!
p.s. I have 2 mexican friends. Both were illegal immagrants who came here and hid until they could get citizenship. First thing they did was go out and get a job. They spent 5 months learning enlgish and speak it very well now. They pay taxes, they are drug free, they have only 1 family living in their small home, and yet they still send money home to help prepare his little brother to come over here to join him. I RESPECT that. They have earned respect.....something the mexican race hasn't had in a long time. I don't give anyone a hard time who's doing what they're supposed to be doing....it's the criminals that piss me off.

I am for legal immigration, now illegal in many ways is harmful to legal immigrants looking for work who can not compete at least on terms of wages due to the fact that the employers will exploit the illegal immigrants by offering sub minimum wage pay, and basically no kind of work man's comp. The employer can also avoid paying payroll taxes and social security on the illegals.
All in all it causes more harm than good in the long run. We also (at least in Texas) spend billions a year on health care, education, and lawsuits incurred by being forced to support the illegal immigrants.
I am all for Legal Mexican, Latvians, Europeans, Hell even Martians coming here as long as they do it in accordance with the law.

I know Vulcannon....just wanted to clarify my point. I hate being called a racist when I'm not attacking a race....I'm attacking a mindset. I have it pretty bad here in Bama, I can't imagine how bad the problem is in California or Texas. You guys are minorities now. The town I used to live in B'ham, I was the only white family in the neighborhood. I was also one of the only people to pay my bill on time.....coincidence??
We need not reward the Businesses or the Illegal immigrants. We should in fact fine those businesses that use illegals and replace the illegals with legal immigrants where in those cases a citizen is unavailable or unwilling to fill the role. We should also jail those business owners for TAX evasion, violation of federal wage laws, and a host of other serious felony offenses committed by those who abuse our free enterprise system. They undermine our way of life by dumping the additional burden on the rest of the country.
We cannot continue as a sovereign nation without a secure border, and without taking those to task that thumb their noses at the law. In the end illegal immigration will only help to create a larger gap between the rich and the poor and it will surely lead to the destruction of the middle class. It will devaluate our economy, reduce our standard of living and lead to nothing more than a larger more powerful socialist welfare state that will seek to dominate every aspect of our lives.

To answer your question shinzen, I am torn on the subject. I hate illeagal immigretion in ANY form for one simple reason, ITS ILLEGAL. It's shows utter disrespect for the country no matter what the motivation for coming here.
On the other habd I did my internship with a landscape architecture firm and worked very closely with lots of Hispanic guys from all over Central and South America. The guys I worked with were some of the most intellegent, honest, decent guys I have met in a long time and I have PROFOUND respect for their culture. So I have no issue with the a majority of the kind of people crossing the border.

there are bad apples in every batch. you don't think asian people evade taxes? well, they do. you think they are all hard working? well, there are some who don't.
a majority of immigrants south of the border are hard working. some of them don't play by the rules because they wouldn't be able to work hard with existing rules.

Well, being north of the border, we seemingly let anyone into this country. As a few have said, go through the proper channels, and come here legally, great. Throw yourself into a boat off the coast and get in here, and hold up honest hard working citizens trying to get into Canada, ship then right back

Up unitl the 60's when there was little to no welfare, there was no problem filling jobs. In order to feed their families poeple would work wherever and whatever they could, they had no choice. Today, they think why bust my ass picking crops or washing dishes if I can stay home, somke some crack and get my monthly check from Uncle Sam. Seal our boarders, use the nation guard if you have to, send all illegals back to wherever they came from, allow them to apply for visas the correct way,and reform the welfare state if you want to keep our country soverign and our standard of living from falling any further then it already has.

Truc, I hear ya man about having bad apples in every batch. It's just that percentage of bad apples to good apples in certain "batches" makes the entire batch look crummy. You have to go searching for the good ones instead of the bad ones.
