Im starting to regret my cx7... :(

The service manager at Corey Fairbanks Mazda was not even on planning on changing my oil because the car only had 2200miles on it. It's new so change it. As in the post above, get the debris out of there. It is not hurting the car by getting the oil change early.

Well - i did mine, i guess al lfor the better- i also called the dealer just now, they told me as long as the 1st oil change is between 3k-5k, there shouldnt be a problem

As for some other issues:

1.My car is still pulling left, they will check alignment when i go in next week
2.The knock i mentioned in a different thread is coming from underneath the dash (either suspension or something else) in the front right area, and from some people in my car i gues sthey can feel some of it when it happens. Its nothing shocking, just sounds like literally a soft knock on a door
3.I told them to flash my ECU due to gas mileage (even tho mine is ok) and see what happens

The tech said that the knock, the pull, and the mpg sound related to a suspension issue, which as a result could cause the pull and whatever else

I'll let you all know next week what goes down!

yea I'd be interested in knowing what the problem was. Could be a broken steel belt on one of your tires.

My dealer automatically set up a 1,000 mile oil change appointment when I picked up the car. They call it break-in oil... and you should get it changed.

Thats exactly what I did to calculate the mileage. I reset the trip on a full fill and then recorded the number of gallons that it took to refill from the gas light being on. Divide the total number of miles driven by how many gallons it took to fill and viola! 12.8 mpg. Ive been having a rotten egg smell lately which I am assuming is the cat. I also have alot of soot on my bumpers above my exhaust pipes.

Something is definitly wrong with my cx7 and I do have the flash.

Shouldn't be much if any soot and you shouldn't be smelling the cat.

well, my loaner cx7 has done 110 kms on $27 of 91 octane. That's a $1.09/L and that means s*** mileage and I wasn't even driving hard at all. 2300kms on the loaner.

To you american's, I think that is ~10mpg

wow.

Well, as an update to my problems, I have been in contact with my lawyer and they feel that I have a case with my car. I am keeping them on retainer as my car is back in the dealer getting looked at. They said that they tried to perform the latest flash and the car is having some problems with the flash. They said "You may have to hang on to that loaner for a little while longer because your car isnt responding well to the flash". They said that they were going to run some checks and should have it ready to go by tomorrow.

Still keeping my lawyer on retainer! :) Now, let me say that I really do like the CX7 and I do not think mine should be compared to the norm as the dealer is even acknowledging that it has problems. The fuel mileage seems to be due to the ECU pulling timing because of detonation causing me to run extremely rich. So rich that almost every other day, I have to clean the soot off the rear bumper. By GA law, they have 1 more chance to fix the non-conformity or its curtains for the CX... Ill keep you updated.

Xavier, I hope they are able to fix it, or that they buy it back and you get satisfaction. If the e-prom isn't taking the flash it may be a good indication that you got a bad ecu. My bet is, they replace the ecu and you will see (after a couple tanks for it to "learn") a major improvement. It's a bummer you got a bad one, because it seems to be a very good car. anyway, fingers crossed!

I hope you then get another CX-7 ????? right Did you ever get the body damage repaired from the rear-ending ??

I havent gotten the body damage fixed yet...still waiting on the other parties insurance. Im gonna call on that tomorrow.

Another quick update about the CX...I got it back today and I havent really had a chance to drive it around. Of course they could not duplicate the detonation problem but they did get the re-flash straightened out. They said that they initially loaded the "Japanese" version of the re-flash. I didnt even know the CX-7 was out in Japan yet. Anyhow, they said that my 60mph hesitation and misfiring was all straightened out so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

If I do have the vehicle purchased back, Iam not sure Id go with another CX7 since its for my wife. The top mount intercooler seems to be a bad idea for the average driver. I guess we will see.

The Subarus also all have the Top mount IC I'm sure there will be a front eventually I was surprised when I had my front bumper off the large mesh on the front bumper clips on/off and theres tons of room in the front end for a IC especially under the front rebar. The Plumbing on the other hand will be a chore. If only they had the subaru idea of the scoop on the hood to keep the temps down the STI,Evo uses a IC sprayer to keep the heat soak issues down. The Subaru guys and others for more cooling use the Coil Nitrous over the IC to cool it too, I've never used so not sure of the usefullness. I guess as I build up over the next few years I will find solutions to any issues. Best of luck I hope you can stay with us.

One of the many IC coolers just a example:

tmic on these engines allow them to use them in many vehicles with ease. Just drop the engine in there if it fits and their done.

I guess I'm lucky. My first two tanks have been 21.08 and 22.67 respectively. I drive about 70% rush hour stop and go freeway, 20% uncongested freeway and 10% side streets.

I hope your dealer is able to fix your CX-7. I sure love mine and haven't had any of the problems you've experienced. I think every manufacturer puts out a lemon from time to time. Hopefully, Mazda will do you right by this one.

Good luck!

I was talking to my lawyer yesterday and they told me that Mazda is usually quick to recognize when there is a problem and their settlement offers are usually very fair as well. It sounds like Mazda is a very customer focus comapny and I think they realize how far word of mouth can travel. I dont have any ill feelings toward Mazda, I just got a bum car it seems.

Also, I understand the business reason for the tmic but maybe it would have been wise to add a hood scoop to channel air directly over the ic to keep temps in check.

Sounds to me you want to dump it after the body damage is fixed man thats too bad, I hope you get another one then, there not all like yours.I have not had one issue except the gas cap I hope possible buyers that read this forum don't get detered from buying new CX-7's there a great overall product and the price cannot be beat for what you can get. My 2 cents to the general non-owners :)

I agree with you Mitza, it seems my vehicle is an isolated example. I am still impressed with the fit and finish but unfortunately thats just not enough to offset my problems. Me personally, Id love to get another one but its my wife's decision and I dont think shes that happy with the CX7. Anyhow, I havent had any problems since its been out of the shop yet but then again, its still early.

The tech said that the knock, the pull, and the mpg sound related to a suspension issue, which as a result could cause the pull and whatever else

I'll let you all know next week what goes down!

1.The toe was off , pulling the car to the left. They fixed it, which in turn seemed to fix a few small things like the way it handles bumps, and the ride quality on the highway. I havent driven it enough, but I expect to see at least 1 mpg added, my car, especially on the highway really really pulled and i would think that freeing up that tension will let this glide much more smoothly

2. They sey they couldnt reproduce the sound. I havent heard it either. My guess is something with the toe control might have been what i was hearing in terms of the alignment and maybe something coming from that. Who knows, but im still listening.

3. My dealer informed me they have been doing "custom" (secret) spec jobs on customer requests for the CX-7. My tech told me the grille from the fusion (the chrome bars) they have been modifying into the 7, as well as the bottom honeycomb grille too, with chrome bars. They have also been doing the wheels dipped in chrome. They said they would do anything i want lol. So it was nice to know. I told them i wanted a cold air intake and a better air filter, and said that as far as i knew there werent any specific cx-7 parts avail yet, they said theyd have no prob modifying them from a 3, 6, or miata etc. Wow, so i wonder if they do all this work, my car is safe under warranty cuz its dealer work. Sounds pretty interesting. This is the largest dealer in my state w/a few locations. They are good. www.tasca.com. They have a shop dedicated to tricking out cars on request. I like that cuz i dunno, it feels safe because its dealer work. For real good custom work, those garage shacks i just dont trust.

Torque Converter

Just got my car last friday and half tank at 150miles mostly on urban. Guess it can go 300 for a full tank. And if I do mixed highway, I think it can have another 10-20miles.. But only the RPM gauge reaches 1.9K it would jump to 2.2K and down to 1.8K. Have anyone encounter this? But the ride are smooth even with the RPM up and down..:)

I used to work on this very transmission in calibration so I have some familiarity with the nuances. What you're seeeing on the RPM step-change is the Torque Converter coming on and off. The CX-7 has what they call an "agressive locking schedule" to maximize fuel economy. Locking the torque converter creates a mechanical link between the engine and the wheels instead of the normal hydraulic link through the torque converter.

If you want any more info on torque converters, visit www.howstuffworks.com . It's an excellent site with great explanations for anything automotive and there are animated pictorals for clarity.
