I'm not boosting in 1st gear, normal?

I noticed that I can't boost in first, or don't. I hear the turbo spooling. I never really checked my boost gauge till now, i only was watching it carefully to listen for a whistle and to see if i had a leak.

But while staring i noticed i don't boost in 1st, is that normal?

Same with me. I always figured it was normal because 1st is such a short gear. Anyways, don't want to snap that lsd so I usually don't step on it in first gear anyway.

I can just choose not to. But yes i have watched it and i will see 8-10lbs in first no problem.

^yup first gear is alot of fun but, i try not to boost (which i can and, you should be able to) in that gear.

I've never noticed, becuase I'm never rough on my car and I never launch or run 1st or 2nd gear hard. Should build boost though, won't stay for long though.

i boost about 5 psi by redline on first gear...

My MSP would build almost full boost in 1st.

I do have a crack on the exhaust manifold. Could that be the cause? Or would it have to be a bigger leak than that?

I don't think it's boost gauge related because we can still build boost in all other gears, just not in first.

I'm thinking it'd have to be bigger than a manifold crack to affect spool. No other problems though ?

LOL, not when you're in such a short gear (1st) with very little opportunity to put load on the motor, and hold that load for any significant amount of time.....

What mods do you have ? Say you had a big big front mount intercooler, and a stock downpipe, that would cause boost building issues in a gear where little and short periods of load are present.

i speak from experience, when my egr disconnected while driving, i didnt know what had happened and started trying to figure out what the car could and couldnt do. my a/f were a lil funny, loss of power, but i could still boost(poorly) about 6 psi in 2nd gear without using wot

this was with the huge perrin fmic and a 2.5 exhaust system
