Mazdaspeed MX-5 Miata
Hey fellow Chicagoans,

Hope all is well with everyone. No, I haven't dropped off the face of the earth - it's been busy and a lot has happened since I last posted. Eleni and I got married in December and our first baby is on the way! Totally unexpected and unplanned, but definitely excited and looking forward to it. (yippy) Okay, so I need some advice as I like to take a proactive approach in everything I do. As you all know, I drive an MX-5 which I love. I bought Eleni a Lexus IS 250 as a wedding gift which she's enjoying to be sure. So, here's the dilemma I'm faced with: do I sell the MX-5 and get an MPV to accomodate the rug rats (I say "rats" because there's a strong possibility of having twins). I'm also looking into the Mazda6 sport wagon. The baby is due in August, so there's plenty of time to think about this. But, as we all know, time flies and August will be here before we know it. Your thoughts/input would be appreciated seeing that I'm at a loss here. I know I can always count on my fellow Mazdan buddies. (blah)

Thanks in advance,
Michael

Personally I would say if you were going to get something like the MPV or 6 Wagon that you should definetly keep the MX-5 you have to keep that one fun vehicle man you only live once. Otherwise if u really wanted to get rid of the MX-5 why not get something like a mazdaspeed 6 that way you can still have lots of fun but you can bring the family to and from places. Just trying to help ya out man I gave you the two things i would probably do given your current situation good luck with everything congrats on the kid(s) and congrats on the marriage (thumb)

congrats on the marriage and the kid(s) on the way... i agree with vcinsantiy ... either keep the mx-5 or get the ms 6 .... both are great cars

Congrats on the nuptuals and the expansion of the family!! You guys wasted no time!!

When I had my Miata, everyone on the Miata forum used to to say OTM - other than Miata for the family. And if you can afford to keep your Miata, by all means do so - for your own sake. As someone married seventeen years and the father of three boys, there are fewer and fewer things you can call your own as time progresses.

As far as the type of vehicle to add to the fold, an MPV would be best when they are infants. It is a royal pain in the back to get them in and out of their carriers/seats when in a sedan/wagon. Accessibility of a minivan is just great whether its getting them in or out of the vehicle, or having to get to them when you're driving. I can't tell you how many times my wife and I praised the genius behind the minivan for not having to pull over, get out and into the back to reach one of the kids.

When they are older (4 years +) then the sedan/wagon works better. They are much more mobile and are able to get in the car themselves, and pretty much buckle themselves in.

Good luck on the family - especially if it is twins!!

(hi) to Michael and Paul....jeebuz, this thread brought you guys out of the woodwork :D....(Paul, we need to meet up, btw....).

I vote keep the MX-5 and I'd say either an MPV or (I'm a big fan already) a Mazda5....the MPV is nice, but if you're used to sportiness (IS, MX), I'd lean more to the 5. Of course, this is assuming you want to stay Mazda...

Besides, you'll be living in the suburbs anyway soon :P

yeah look for the mazda5. or the CX-7 might be a good idea too. the 5 is more minivan, the cx-7 more suv. 6 wagon is nice though, too (it'd be my current pick based on not knowing much about the cx-7)

Thanks for the feedback and for your good wishes. I'm not even sure I'll be sticking with Mazda - also looking into Toyota, Honda, and Nissan. But if I do, I think the MPV would be a good pick. Paul, I didn't even consider accessibility, etc. Good point, man (BTW, three boys and married seventeen years?!?! Wow.). Prior to being married, it was all about me, but now there is so much to take into consideration when making big decisions. My wife and kid(s) are my priority now, so if I need to sell the MX-5, I will. (sad1) I love it though, really love it. We'll see, there's still plenty of time to think about it. Hey D, what's up man? So you think I should keep Marley, huh? I'm not so sure having three cars would be in our best interest. At any rate, I'll keep y'all posted.

Off on a tangent here, but Eleni and I honeymooned in Santorini, Greece. The pics do it no justice. I've been to every freakin' country, and this place without a doubt is the most beautiful. And for those of you casanovas (yup, I'm one of those suckers), this is THE place to be. (yes) I'd live there in a heartbeat if I could.
