If you could buy your car over again.... would you?

With MAzda's incompetence, not really known, till after I purchased the car, and with thier renig on thier commitment to provide aftermarket, performance support, I would nver touch a MSP again.

This vehicle is so problem laid, and improperly built (for a boosted application) I would lean more towards a wrx wagon, or an older 240, and build it.

I do love my MSP, for its appearance, comfort, and head turning appeal, but as far as reliability, quality of build, and Mazdas shunning of the MSP, I would not buy another new MAzda again.

It looks like my first post has turned into a really good thread. Reading the responses (well, most of them) has really helped me to make my decision. Also, I want to thank you, matt, for your well thought out post.

I'd like to let you all know that I'll be getting a new MSP tomorrow night. :)

the only car i would even THINK about instead of my msp would be an EVO...but i have a feeling i would still settle on my msp. and i paid msrp for mine

Congrats and good luck (make sure those bastards put the right shift knob and the racing hart stem covers too, they tried to pull one on me but thankfully I noticed it :bs: )

Dont get me wrong I still love the WRX, but different strokes for different people. In a drag the WRX would win, esp. from a stop (unless you boost more in your MSP, which is a lil more dangerous in a WRX due to the precat etc from a simple MBC), but drive them both and toss the WRX around and it will show that it's ~300lbs heavier and the car just simply doesnt handle as neutral on autox like turns/courses like the MSP. Glad I could help out.

i would certainly buy it again. my wife was looking at a P5 when i saw the MSP. took it for a drive and got it. a little impulsive, but i really have no regrets except it doesn't make that turbo whoosh that i like.

i didn't even know what it was when i saw it for the first time.( forgive me, i'm a mustang owner)
i know i paid too much for it, but live and learn i say.:D

no, but only because I'll never buy a NEW car again, atleast unless I just pay cash for it.

between interest and depreciation I feel I could of bought a slightly used car and made it what I wanted.

that being said I'll almost always buy a cheaper car and modify it to my tastes rather than buy a BMW that already has everything close to what I want... modding is more than half the fun

Yeah, I'd buy it again. With the rebates and all I ended up paying about $17K out the door. I get more compliments and turned heads with this car than I ever thought. It rails through corners and you don't see a million of them. The WRX is everywhere - you'd be one of many. The Speed is truly a special car - but make sure you get a good deal. I' don't think they are an easy sell for dealers so you should be able to get a good deal - get a 2003.5 though. The guy I dealed with here at the dealer in PA was awesome - no BS, no crap, he was a tuner guy too.

Ill be BLUNTLY HONEST right now. No sugar coating here. The build quality of the MSP, the reliabilty of the MSP, and the value of the MSP is s***. Im at the point of saying that my 01 neon had a better build quality then the Falling apart MSP. :D

Stay away, and invest your money on something else that will satisfy you, and not lose its value as quickly. Trust me on this one. :D

WIthout a second thought. How can you say the build quality of a protege is worse than a Neon cause thats basicly what the MSP is. Just cause you dont like the car dont mean you have to infect people by telling them the car is junk because it isnt to your liking. You bought a car that didnt have the potential in the right areas that you wanted, that was your fault not the cars.

^ THANK YOU!

jessus, i've owned 2, and havent had any problems yet (knocks on wood).
my altima had more problems in a week than both of my MSP's in 9 months.
a 4-months-old golf that my mom drives has more problems.
american cars.......forget about it.

the only car that i can say was 0-problem car was my '00 Si.
nothing EVER in 3 years.......NOTHING!

proteges are nice cars, all proteges. i have friends with base proteges, P5's, MP3's, and MSP's. none of them had any serious problems with their cars.

nope. mine is falling apart at 8500 miles and the dealers around here are the biggest pain in the ass. I love the car but with all the hassles it is casueing id should have keep my 91 nissan nx2000 and gone with a sr20det fwd swap. oh well cant change s*** now.

WRX!

I bought my car on the first day of my new job. I settled for a P5 instead of a WRX because I was just starting my new job and just moved across the country, so I didn't want to over-extend things and saved some cash. I've always said that if I were able to keep my old car for a few months and be a little more settled in my new home and new job, I for sure would've got a WRX instead of settling for a P5. In fact, I just helped my fiance buy a WRX. That said, I still think my P5 is a great car and I really like it (although being parked next to a WRX every day and not having it be all mine to drive sucks hard). I'll probably trade my P5 in on a WRX as soon as I'm not upside-down on my loan anymore.

FBI, you need to read my previous post. I stated nothing, regarding the inability to mod the MSP. I stated the car is falling apart. Thus, being a build quility issue. Many owners have cars that are falling apart, blowing engines(with stock boost levels) seats ripping, radios crapping out, bushings going bad constantly, ECT ECT ECT.

This car cost me 20k, and is nowhere near that value. I have checked around to several dealerships, and all have quoted me 10-13k tradein value on my MSP. I can get more for a loaded P5 then my MSP as a trade. That is a reflection of the build issues inherent to the MSP. :D

I would buy it again.

WRX was more money and I can't stand that lawn mower flat 4.

The Mach1 is a plastic peice of crap. Big V8 but that's it.

SRT-4 more plastic than the rustang, nice motor, real crappy interior.

make sure those bastards put the right shift knob and the racing hart stem covers too, they tried to pull one on me but thankfully I noticed it

Say what? To tell you the truth, I'm not even sure where the stem covers are..... so how do I know I'm getting the right ones?

And as for the shift knob, are there different ones? I'm assuming you are referring to the thing that I grab when I change gears, right?
