Idle Issues

Hopefully by doing a little post redundancy I can get some more assistance with my idle issues.

My car will stall or fall to 0 RPM when the clutch is pushed in while driving. Even when just slowing to a stop the idle will fall to 200 RPM. The head lights being on make it the worst.

So far:

I have tested the for VAC leaks but VAC is at 21 PSI so it very unlikely especialy after a visual check.

I tested for intake leaks after the MAF. If I put my hand over the MAF the car will stall all but immediatly.

I tested the IAC valve by removing the grey wireharness clip and the idle sis not change, the car continued to idle, should have stalled or atleast dropped. The IAC valves impedance was 8.4-8.6 ohms and there were no wiring shorts between the IAC and the ECU. Just pin to pin as it should be, no shorts to ground or each other either.

I removed both the MAF and IAC, cleaned them and reinstalled them. THen I reset the computer. After this the car started fine and when the grey clip on the IAC was again removed the car almost stalled before I reattached it. However after a 10 minute drive the grey clip can again be removed without effecting anything.

OK guys, WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is a possibility

Would you care to suggest another?

What would could be done to rule out the blowoff valve, clear its helth so to speaker other then swapping in a new one.

OK heres the news so far. Car is at the dealer and they assume a MAF malfunction.

The engine is throwing code #P1504.
I guess this is an Air fuel ratio code?

FM ruled out the blow off valve since its a recirculating one and there is definitly no leaks to the atmosphere.

Does anyone have an MP3 shop manual? The FS engine does not have a code P1504 according to my 2002 manual...

Last I heard there was no special shop manual for the MP3 specifically. No part number to speak of for an MP3 shop manual insert.

I'm wondering if the MP3 ECU has different error codes. As I mentioned, there's no P1504 error for the FS engine. The ZM has one (ISC connection problem).

That would be odd for them to use different error codes for the MP3, but it might be true. There are a lot of odd things with this car. I don't know.

I'll call my parts guy on Monday and see if I find out if there is a part number out now for the MP3 with regards to a shop manual.

I picked the car up from the dealer and there is an entirely new issue.

If I hit the gas and get into boost as the boost rises and the RPMs hit about 4K the engine starts to climb revs like crazy, but the car doesn't accelerate. The car feels like I am holding the clutch in but depressing the gas pedal.

Thanks for your help guys, god knows I need all I can get these days!

So then what did they say was the issue causing the idle problems??

Or did they actually figure it out?

Nothing was determined unfortunitly. i have to take the car to another dealer. They think its either the IAC which the service manager, a friend of mine, of the dealer I was at, a jeep dealer, talked to a mazda dealer tech for me. He got them to agree that an IAC valve is completely under warrenty and if fualty would be fully under warrenty. The MAF is there other though. That would not be under warrenty being that they feel the turbo could damage it.

Not a clue but thats what the mazda tech said and he mentioned the turbo definitly viods the MAF warrenty.

I keep on saying this but it could be a vacuum leak somewhere

The boost guage shows an idle vac of 21 PSI. Doesn't that rule out a vacuum leak?

That error code needs to be identified instead of randomly pointing to things under the hood and blaming them.

By the way, that was an excellent description of clutch slip. Time for a new clutch.

OH JOY!
Another thing to spend money on!
I am hoping anyone with a 2001 manual might be able to lend some light on this.

I am already incontact with RR-racing for there combo kit with the Fidanza flywheel and clutchmaster stage I clutch. Hopefully i can get a decent deal on the install.

Hey Keith. I respoke with the service manager and he said the error specificly said Air / Fuel meter reading. He mentioned it didn't point to any specific part at all.

Hey 1st MP3 in NH,

Sounds to me like the guys at the dealership did more than just check out your car. I would say they owe you a new clutch and a free install. BTW, we're using the ACT HD/SS clutch and Fidanza flywheel and have no complaints about the combination.

Cheers.
