ok so my mazdaspeed protege was running fine 1 minute the next it stalled out when cranked again it wouldnt idle... tried a few more times u could rev it up but it was rough and still wouldnt idle let it cool a little and one of my friends said it sounded like carbon buildup on the egr valve said his truck used to do it ... he said to dog the hell out of it and it should pop the carbon clears and runs fine... so i decide to head home could only get it to go about 3k and only doin like 20-25 in 2nd at stoplights when i had to keep it running i could get it 2 rev like 5k a friend was followin me he got in the other lane said exhaust was red hot so i pulled over reved a little while comin to a stop he said it was shootin 2 foot flames out the tailpipe engine wasnt running hot... decided to let it cool and decided i wasnt takin it home but i wasnt leavin it in the particular parkin lot i was in either so after it cooled i decided to drive it maybe another half mile to a foodlion still wouldnt idle but took off like nothin was wrong then quickly felt like the break was stomped as it slung me forward i put it in second and got it 2 foodlion at which point it would idle at wat looked to be 100 rpms for about 5 seconds and then go up to about 7 or 8 and idle good .... if reved it repeated process...

turned it off went in to let the manager know it needed to stay used the bathroom came back out cheked oil and it was full ...

if any1 could help wondering if egr valve sounds feesible he also mentioned o2 sensor... would the turbo goin make it run like that ? clogged exhaust maybe?.... like i said the car was runnin normal temp but exhaust was red hot and shootin flames

ps it was driven with said problems maybe a mile and a half total 2 at the very most

thanks to any one who can help

Sounds like your MAF came loose or maybe a charge pipe popped off. It's happened to me a few times, scares the s*** out of you then you remember MAF. The last time something like this happened to me it was the charge pipe at the throtle body. Go take a look and see if you can find anything loose, go over all the clamps and tighten them up a bit.

alright ty u guys ill check that of have it checked the dealer i got it from wants me to bring him the key... byby protege for another 2 weeks lol

2 Weeks?!! It takes 2 minutes to take a look and reconnect what ever is loose. If it's what i think it is it'll be obvious to see.

I have a stupid question. What's a Charge pipe?

My son just called me this moning and said his MSP wouldn't idle. He checked vaccuum lines, but couldn't find anything.

Follow the pipes from the airbox, to the turbo, to the intercooler, to the throttle body. It sounds like one of those are loose some where.

Charge pipes are the intake pipes after the turbo, turbo to intercooler and intercooler to throtle body.
