I need help guys my P5 wont start

Hey guys i need your help. I was driving down the road tonight and when I turned on my lights my car died. I just got two subs installed two weeks ago and granted its probably the cause but I tried to jump it and it wont start. The lights and all the electronics are working and on but the car wont start. No clicking or anything.

I had a car that had a button that you had to push for something like this but I got the car used and have no manual. PLEASE HELP.

Thanks everyone

check and make sure that your power and ground wires arent touching and draining your electrical system.
also your starter could just be bad

yeah nothing is touching, everything has been fine with it. Anything else

have someone tap your starter with a blunt object (like an extension for a socket wrench) while you start it. they dont have to beat it into submission, just give it a few hard taps. and see if that does the trick. if not, then im out of ideas

I'd start by disconnecting the negative ground on your battery...Re-connect and try to start it...Mine did something similair recently, and that did the trick. If that doesn't work try to jump start it, or switch batteries...Next check all the wiring on the sub, and make sure you've got it hooked up to "switchable" power so it turns the subs off when you turn the ignition off...I'm out of ideas...try disconnecting then reconnecting the negative on the battery first tho.....

It could be your alternator... When I worked on heavy equipement and so fourth we use to run into the same thing. Your battery has enough juice to run the ignition and gauges and so fourth but when your turned on your head lights, it killed the remaining power.. If your alternator is out, it would cause this to occur do to the fact that it's not charging up the battery and powering the car's eletrical system. If you just added a sub w/ a big amp or anything, that could have just thrown it over the edge...

Good luck.

Well after 40 minutes of trying to jump it, 3 hours of sulking and a dozen chicken wings later I went back to my P5 because of course I couldn't leave a man behind and what do you know....started right up. BLAST. You gotta love a P5.

Sounds like your started didn't dis engaged! My grandam did that all the time. Beating on it sometimes worked but normally it didn't.

There is a thing called heat soak, the starter gets so hot that it just won't work until it cools, I had a 78 Olds Cutlass that used to do that. Glad to hear that it eventually started though.

Ah mysterious electrical problems, these can be soooo much fun. It probably won't do this again until you're in the worst possible place for it to happen.

Prudence suggests that even though your car is "working" now that you have these checked ASAP:

1. The battery (load test and inspect for cracks or other signs of failure)
2. The alternator
3. The wiring that was put in for the new sub (look for shorts)
4. The main ground - make sure the connection to the chassis is not corroded or loose.
5. The connections to the battery (for corrosion or failing wiring).
6. All fuses.

Good luck, you may need it.
