I need a new engine asap, How much? And where?

Mine is out of the recall range too. My car is sitting at the dealer right now. They are supposed to be looking at it today to determine if there is a screw missing. I have called Mazda N.A. already too to get a file started. I don't like my dealer too much either so I am guessing I will have a fight on my hands to get anything done with it.............

If I can't get them to pay for it then it is going down the road to my bro-in-law for an intake swap (I already have a spare) and a cylinder scope to see if there is any damage..........

yes my car was built in oct of 2002.
If the screw is in the 1st cat then Mazda should be the one screwed whether or not the VIN is in range. The problem could be wider than they are admitting to. More than a few have been on either side of the recall range but still had the same problem.

Just got a call from the dealer on mine. One butterfly has both screws missing...........

The service rep is going to get with the service mgr tomorrow and get things rolling. Hopefully Mazda will step up to the plate and cover it.

if they take the top off the 1st catalytic convertor, the screw will be sitting there most likely. Good luck, and it might set a precident of dealers ficing defects.

Don't forget to have them do a compression test on the cylinders it went throught to make sure that you don't need a whole new engine...

Yeah I had mine done,Conmpression test #1: 175 #2: 170 #3: 170 #4: 160 and I had a leak down test Cyl#1: 0% from the crank case. Cyl#2 0% Cyl#3 0% cyl#4 8%, Guess which cyl the spark plug broke off in to...so it looks like a new motor for me (pissed)

bummer about the motor. Now to pop off the intake manifold and look for missing screws.

Im trying to get my car in to the dealer to inspect my car, but there all assholes in Salem and said it would take two weeks to see my car, and because my car is out of vin# for the recall I would have to pay for the inspection. So I have been working with MazdaUSA to have them speed up the process... I mean I want to just take a look for my self but then they might not fix it. god this is a pain in my ass

You have to let me know if they take care of anything for you. I was on the phone with Mazda today and they are not going to cover anything for me. They basically told me that the recall doesn't pertain to my vehicle. Plain and simple.

Good luck

So here is kind of a recap of what is going on with my car, Im not going to have Mazda do anything, because theyre going to make me pay them more $ for an inspection to tell me what I already know. And then they are going to tell me they are not going to cover it, so F that s***.

I bought an engine form Ken at Protg Garage for a great price along with some headers. I will try to take a lot of pix of the engine switch.

Speaking of which if any one has any pointers or pix of when they dropped in there engine in it would be appreciated :-)
