the Mazda MP3 has a CAT back and not an axle back! and that came straight from Racing Beat themselves.

I want to know why everyone else said it was an axle back.

Hey I hope that wasn't a shot a me:)

Anyway from what I understand they originally made a cat-back for the mp3 but Mazda decided to just go with a rear section(Axle-back) I took my exhaust off when I replaced it and it looked like a normal ol' restrictive cat. and then it unbolted to just the rear section and muffler.

Not meaning to be an A$$hole here, but don't all cars have cat back exhaust systems? It's all semantics baby! I know you mean a "tuned" system, but even at that, I'm sure all manufacturers understand the dynamics of their exhaust tubing and all systems are tuned to some degree or another.

To clarify what I mean...you can get an aftermarket "cat-back" or an aftermarket "axle back" but all factory systems are cat back systems. I don't get your point??

it wasn't a shot at you its just that it really doesn't matter unless the tubing diameter changes. To them a muffler is a muffler, and it is ment to do one thing, muffle sounds. So unless you a rolling a SRT-4 neo s**** then your factory exaust was ment to muffle sound.

Off course all cars "have" a cat-back system.(unless your running without a cat). But in this situation I believe he was refering to the mp3 having a cat-back exhaust system tuned by racing beat. In which I would reply strait from the racing beat website.

A tuned Racing Beat Muffler was developed and fitted to the car. This muffler was designed to prove a deeper more aggressive exhaust note, while keeping within legal noise level limits.

So the muffler was racing beat from stock, But the cat was just from Mazda not racing beat.

Are you saying that the middle section of the exhaust tubing from the cat to the rear section is different on an MP3 than it is on a standard Protege sedan or P5??? I don't think that's true. I don't think there's a separate part number for an MP3 cat to muffler exhaust tube

Yes the rear section on a MP3 Is made by racing beat. It not just the tube from the cat to the muffler it is the tube after(but not including) the cat and the muffler.

you can look here at the racing beat site that tells about the mp3 project.
Project MP3

here is a picture of the STOCK MP3 muffler which is racing beat
And the STOCK cat which is not racing beat

One more little paragraph from the racing beat website. Proving both points that it is different and that it is only the muffler section not a cat-back

Protege MP3 and Mazdaspeed models - Per Mazda's request, only a rear muffler section was designed for the Protege MP3/Mazdaspeed projects and incorporated an OEM style flange to allow fitment with the stock connecting pipe. The muffler outlet was configured to allow the tip to be correctly positioned in the rear bumper of the MP3/Mazdaspeed bumper. This configuration will not allow the tip to position correctly if the MP3/Mazdaspeed muffler is installed on a non-MP3/Mazdaspeed Protege. (The MP3/Mazdaspeed muffler will not fit on the Protege 5).

What, no ok your right Adam. No mp3 owners saying, yes He's right. No point proven Adam. No your wrong and a Moron Adam.

i guess you right. b/c i remeber reading in magazines that the MP3 had a cat back. so i called to ask them some questions about my friends rx7 and ask them this and he said we had a CAT Back. now if Racing beat doesn't know what made who does then?
