How To: Quiet down cabin noise and improve sound for cheap

thats not what I said. assuming they are the same product in different thicknesses, that would depend solely on your application. In some instances, 80 mils would do you no benefit over 45.. in others it almost certianly would.

now if you're talking about 2 different thickness of 2 different products you're talking about a COMPLETELY different comparison.

by application I mean particular panel, shaped a particular way, metal of a particular thickness... there are no absolute rules...

honest answer: dunno.

FYI Dynamat, is 70 mils.

In the past I have used that foil covered bubble wrap at home depot and spray glue. Much thicker than Matt's alternative, a bit of a b**** to put door panels back on, but when I did a 1972 Ford 4x4 on every panel and floor, it was as quiet as a brand new car after that.

Chiming in on the door panel plastic. It is a moisture barrier as well as a draft barrier. Using a razor blade to slice through it as you pull it up makes for a clean removal and easy reapplication. If its hammerd buy a box of strip caulk and its easy to re install.

+1 on thickness not equal to performance. If you want it quiet and willing to do all the work to strip the interior just buy the good stuff, may be twice as much but you know its going to work.

Damn man thanks! I commented on ur youtube vid!
I am going to get this ish tommorow!

Edit I didnt read what tools you have to use. I remeber when I installed dynamat previously, I had to use a heat gun and flat tools to press it in place. Is this peel and stick?

WOW! is all I can say, I bought 2 rolls @ home depot today. Holy shiz, i havent been out driving yet, but my music sounds sooooo much deeper now, the doors dont sound like an econobox closing and best off all most of the rear rattles are gone. looks like im mmissing a bumper clip, the bumper shakes but the hatch door is silent. I am only half done.

So far i have done the trunk floor and sides, the hatch door and a drivers side door I am a little past 1.5 rolls now I am sure I ll be pickin up a third. Thanks again Matt!

pics or it didnt happen

Anyone have a break down the square footage per door, floor pan, trunk area, hatch, etc? It'd be nice info to have for calculating prices.

The rear took a whole roll (just the floor). I made sure to cover ever part of it bc i red the most noise transfer is from the hatch floor.

I'm glad it worked for you Jay! I also like how the doors sound more solid when you close them (especially on my end because I have removed moldings).
