How To: Greddy Full Auto-timer Install

Alejo_NIN said:
splice the RED wire onto the RED wire from ignition.(shown below)
splice the GREEN wire onto blue wire (in the picture, it would be the wire behind the black/white wire)
splice the BLUE wire onto the black/white stripe wire.

His is different from both of ours!

I'm gonna get back under the dash and test all the wires and verify whats what. I'll post what i find.

I also read through the manual and found what you were talking about with setting the TT to ACC or ignition, and the switch on the back. I'll check all that too.

in my car, the ACC wires is black and white and the 12v is black and white

but i know that the blue goes to red black and green to blue, because i remebred that the 2 blues never touch in mine

the wires i'm refering too can be found behind the key ignition

nice write up! I needed to hook up the vss to my avic-d3 and found out exactly how from reading this post. Thxs you saved me much valuable time. You gotta love a good write up with good clear pics!

did you use a wire harness for this install??? Im assuming not because greddy did not manufacture a wire harness for this piece!

ECU Wire Location??

Could some direct me to the correct wire for the O2 sensor that is comming from the ECU. Is it pink/blue? Could I use a manual that shows the diagram from a plan third generation protege and use that location? What is the speed sensor wire that you were talking about? Tack or MPH?????

guess what , my Greddy TT is acting up as well.
In the beginning was fine wired up as Alejo has and since about a month or two it acts funny.
I have set it to stay 30 sec and if i drive more it will calculate by itself and ad more time to it. This was working for me but now as soon as i start the car it counts up even though i'm in idle so it will count up for ever untill i stop and turn off the key and then it counts down from where it stoped counting up ( ex. 10 min ) .
Another thing that i noticed is that while i'm driving and the TT counts up non stop if i use the two first buttons to control the front windows it will restart the TT in other words TT will restart counting and will beeb and flash red for about 2-5 sec and starts counting from 30 sec and up.

i just disconnected the VSS cable and it still acts the same bull .

What the **** would be the problem here , it first started when i installed the AEM UEGO WB.

any ideas before i yank it out

IF you have it wired as me
then everytime you put the windows down at the same time, the stupid thing resets!

i need to find another source of power for the TT.

that's the only flaw in my how-to

dude i got to measure then everything from start, well since my car is half striped inside mind as well find the flaw.
what about that counting non stop up ?? is that part of you're flaw ??

you might wanna get the right pin on the VSS cus when i put the TT on speed mode it read twice as much as i was driving and my body (mechanic) told me that might be cuz the wire is of the reverse one not the forward speed one, guess there's two speed , regular drive and reverse , apparently the reverse is twice the speed of regular forward one.
just to let you know

the only flaw is the shutting off with the power windows

mine reads RPM's perfectly
you also have to set the RPM setting to match that of your car!

remember, this is a universal unit and not all cars have the same voltage on the RPM wire.

great write up alejo

I havent noticed that issue with the windows and I wired everything up the way you said in the write up

well i just wired this up and im a p5 owner and the ignition plug didnt have the same color wires as you, i had it working and then i put all my plastic piece back in and now when i cut the key switch off..the power to the turbo timer cuts off and doesnt keep my car idling

hmm

Im almost positive the wiring should be the same

are you sure your not getting each side of the plug confused?
one side of the plug the wires are one color and on the other side (the side facing the floor I believe) the wires are the colors Alejo showed

(Im assuming your using the Greddy style turbo timer)
I HIGHLY recommend you invest in a volt-meter, check the voltages running through each wire with the key in each position, and then wire accordingly
(the colors that follow are for the car, not for the turbo timer)
red - always 12 v --red turbo timer wire goes here
blue - 12 v ONLY when key is in the 'ON' position (the final click just before cranking the starter) --green turbo timer wire goes here

once you have those two hooked into their correct wires then look at the plug
there will be two red wires and (if I recall correctly) two black w/ white stripe wires

the black/white wire you hook the blue turbo timer wire to is the one next to the red wire you hooked into already

(if there is only one black/white wire then you can use this for a reference as to which red wire to hook into as well)

the volt meter is your friend with electrical!
just remember that after you have checked all the voltages to DISCONNECT the battery before you change any wires as its really easy to short something out down there and then have your ignition ******, or possibly fry all your accessories (radio, etc...)

my wires on the plug are not the same as the one in the picture the colors are diffrent i had it working but now when i cut the car on the turbo timer cuts on and then turns off. i can manually turn the timer on but it still doesnt keep my car running after i turn the car off
