How To: Greddy Full Auto-timer Install

yes, i know that if you cut the blue/white wire i can bypass the keyless entry.
i was wondering if there was a different way to wire it so that i wouldnt sacrifice my alarm?

not really unless you get an aftermarket alarm

however for some reason my car started letting me lock it and keep the alarm feature for a while....it was oddly intermittent, and I have NO idea how it allowed me to do that because I didnt do the keyless entry bypass

so you just were able to lock your car with the engine on without bypassing the keyless entry?
interesting...

yea, it was weird
dont ask me how I did it though, I really dont know...

I got the car used and the previous owner had done some heavy modifications (I could tell cause after I started my build I noticed some stuff he had done)....however it is in fact using the stock alarm and from what I can tell he didnt modify any of the ignition wires so I dont think he had a turbo timer, but who knows?

Thanks for the write up... i'll be using it soon... now i need to figure out how to engage my alarm automatically after the car shuts off

Awesome write-up. I just received my turbo timer and will use the instructions soon.

about the install

While installing my newly acquired Turbo Timer into my Mazdaspeed protege, i found that there's a HOW-TO for BLITZ (found here: http://members.tripod.com/church56/blitz.html ) and a HOW-TO for HKS's Type 0 (found here: http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37921) but none for the Greddy Full Auto Turbo timer.

It took me longer looking for information on were to splice the VSS( Vehicle Speed Sensor) wire than the complete install!!!

so, i took some pictures and here's what i found.

The easiest way to install this fabulous turbo timer.
also, excuse my english for i am a latino guy who barely knows any english.

Start by disconnecting the NEGATIVE (-) from the battery.

I will choose a location for you, since this is the location most people use for being the easiest and the stealthiest(a word??) it is located where the coin pocket under the steering wheel.
timer_loc.jpg

drill a hole behind it big enough to fit the plug, or you may do a small one and disassemble the plug. (if you need to know how to disasemble the plug...just do the hole big enough to pass the plug thru.)

now, we're gonna splice the 3 main cables from the turbo timer second harness onto the ignition keyswitch wires.

cut the plug that has only 3 cables, the plug is white.
splice the RED wire onto the RED wire from ignition.(shown below)
splice the GREEN wire onto blue wire (in the picture, it would be the wire behind the black/white wire)
splice the BLUE wire onto the black/white stripe wire.

after doing this, lets wire up the VSS cable (vehicle speed sensor) onto the ECU wire.

Let's start by removing the carpet from the front of the passenger side, also removing the kick panel on the left of the passenger side.
Now remove the four bolts holding the big metal bracket, the ECU is located right behind this as shown below:
undo_bolts_1.jpg

undo_bolts_2.jpg

after this, try to turn the bracket around to expose the ECU like this:
ecu_loc.jpg

now, search for a small cable that is GREEN with a RED stripe, this is your VSS cable where you will splice the PURPLE cable onto after running it from the Turbo Timer via behind the dash as shown below.
purple_splice.jpg

now, you may want to put the ecu back together or leave it for later.

Next, lets connect the e-brake sensor cable( BROWN) onto the cable that comes from the e-brake, i wanted to do it as close as possible, but the cable from the e-brake changes color after the first plug and being that the cable is long enough, i decided to splice onto it at the e-brake itself as shown below:
center.jpg

e-brake.jpg

you may want to put the center console back together now.

After this, the only cables you should have left are a GREY cable and a BLACK CABLE(GROUND)
we won't be using the gray cable, so you may just leave it hanging.
I left the ground last since if connected (in case you had forgotten to disconnect the battery) may damage your ECU and/or Turbo Timer, both being pretty expensive parts and one of them leaving you stranded for a couple of days until acquired.

The location that i chose the ground wire to be conencted to is a bolt holding the dash to the frame, it is found after removing the plastic panel on the driver side on the side of the dashboard.

now, if you haven't put anything back together, it would be a good time to get to know your turbo timer and test that it works. The instructions that come with the turbo timer explains how to set up the speed sensor and how to set up the auto-timer feature, this is not covered on this how-to.

i hope this helps someone when installing this awesome turbo timer.

i literally jumped when it worked...
i wish i had seen a how to like this when installing mine, but it gave me the opportunity to create my own.

Enjoy[/QUOTE\]
Ya man it took me longer to find where to splice the wires than the install to but it was worth it greddy is putting all of there stuff on the line these days !!!

aBOUT THE INSTALL

YA MAN IT WAS THE HARDEST THING EVER TO FIND WERE TO SPLICE THE WIRES, BUT THAKS FOR THE INFO MAN!!!(thumb)

bump for you because i used the same exact wiring diagram for my apex'i tt and it works awesome

quick question, I know this was partially covered in the last page, but with the install and w/o doing the alarm bypass mod, I can't lock the car at all right? until it shuts off, or is it like when you have the doors open and lock it, where it will engage it, but not lock it and arm the alarm until you shut the doors, because if I could "lock" the car so that the alarm is armed and the car locks after the car shuts off than that wouldn't be too bad, just as long as no one runs in fast to steal the car while your walking away lol... and if I do the alarm bypass mod, and I use the keyless remote to lock the car while the car is running, will the alarm activate after the car shuts off.. or does it not activate at all unless you don't do the alarm bypass mod...
thanks

also another quick question if someone could anwser this as well as the others...
um, If I were to hook the power wire up, with a switch (next the foglight/dimmer switches) so that I could turn off the TT if I haven't been driving much, and turn it on when I want, will it erase the memory if I do that, I know that there is an actual power button on the unit, but I don't really want it turning on whenever I turn the car on and have to push the power button to off, if I intend to have it off.. some info would be great thanks

-also the connecting the speed wire to the ECU, if I just want the TT to count down from a preset time, without the thing calculating extra time, can I just leave that disconnected, I don't really have a use for it to tell me the speed, or add extra time, I don't autocross

How to Arm your alarm While car is running

This is also a simple fix. Locate your Alarm module zip tied under dash . Find pin # 6 orange wire Switched 12v. Cut this wire . You can now arm your alarm when car is running . This is after the Keyless entry bypass is done. Also if you want you alarm to Auto Arm I believe there are switches inside for diff options ( In the Alarm Box ) I dont have an old manual for all the switch settings but maybe can be found from clifford alarms they orginally made this alarm for ford and mazda. If you take the 4 phillips heads off that hold the box together you will see micro switches inside. I Dont like auto lock so I did not try this .

ya I would be happy with just being able to arm my alarm and lock the car while it it still running for a little bit, thanks for the info. now I am definitely going to put this in sometime soon

lol ya once I'm done with school and I get back home it's going in, along with my coolant/oil cans, repainting my calipers w/spicy orange from G2 (hopefully I can get them to add the mica), my HIDs for fogs and headlights, clutch line and I wanna fabricate a SMIC ram air kinda thing lol.. should be fun lol

oh and also, If I don't connect the speed wire, everything still works right?.. I don't have a need for the TT to start adding time depending on the amount of time I drove and all that stuff or tell me my speed...
