Just wanted to get fellow P5 owners opinions. How much is too much money on mods? $3K, $4K etc..... My rational is why spend so much money on mods where you could have bought a more powerful vehicle for the price of the P5 plus the mods. (IE: WRX, GTI 1.8T, Jetta 1.8T etc).

Well here is something to take into considuration..

People may buy the car cause they like it over the others. Not only that, but they have all the money they need so they can dump loads of cash into to make it faster, and better. Than there are the type of people...like most of us that buy the car cause its what we can afford.

So really there is no "whats to much" its more like "what are you able to spend, and willing to spend". If you have 10 grand just sitting around and that is pennies too you, and you buy a mazda cause you like the look...and things like that than dump that 10 grand in if you want.

It all comes down to what you can, and are willing to afford in mods. Its totally subject to oppinion.

My opinion...if I had the money I would buy a Mazda Protege Speed and dump 50k into it, ontop of an RX-8.

So just ask yourself...can you afford to put a bunch of money into it. If you can, and want to knock yourself out. If your a penny pincher and cant afford to spend a lot...just spend what you can and feel you should spend.

I like the P5 alot better than those cars, also it's more of a hobby for me. I take joy in doing the work, not neccessarily have the fastest car available. If I would have only wanted a fast car I would have just went out ond bought a used WS6. It's much more fun to take a slower car and work on it....:D

As for too much, I really don't think there is a limit. Just whatever you feel like spending. :D

You can also consider a change in priorities, I chose the P5 for space, handling, style, economy for a daily commuter to replace my truck when I was working in construction. Now, I have a company service van and I find myself wanting something sportier & faster, not just practical. I have looked at what it would cost to trade-in for a "sporty" car (read Mazdaspeed or W.H.Y.) and what with depriciation and all, I can make myself an awesome, unique, slick and quick ride for less, soooo :wtf:

Yeah, you could have bought a WRX and drive it around bone stock, or for the same amount of dough, ride around in a tricked out P5. To me, the choice is obvious. peace.

I recently sold my '98 Z28 that I drove for the past five years and bought a P5. I did it for practicality reasons and I do like the P5 a lot. It's light, handles well, great interior and looks for the price, it's practical, etc., etc. However I really don't understand the current trend of dumping $$$ into front wheel drive econo-cars to make them fast. For about $12-16,000 (used) you can get a really fast, bone stock Z28, Trans Am, or Cobra that will click off 13 second quarter miles factory bone stock (and likely still under warranty). My P5 is staying stock. :o
