How many Brits? Fancy a cuppa?

The TT live has failed before, to the extent its been on the national news, if i recall the system was down for some weeks.
I would check with TT.

Starting to wish i haven't ordered the dam thing, was hoping the updates would clear the issues, from reading posts it appears that updates are removing functions previously available.

Driving to the shops today, 30mph, 4th gear, car stuttered a little bit, thought nothing of it, then done it a few mins later. Popped into shops, started the engine and engine inspection warning and engine symbol are on. Car had a slight stutter on way home too. Its Easter weekend, garage isnt open until Tuesday.....not a happy bunny!

"Another exhaust pressure sensor failure at about 14000 km on GTD. Drove around for a week with engine light on (no apparent performance issues) waiting for a service appointment and now they have to keep the car till new component arrives later in week."

Hi there,
Interested to hear if anyone else has been having Tomtom problems, particularly with Live Service, mine went into dealer in Newport on Friday having lost the Live Services. Dealer couldn't sort it and will be ringing Mazda UK Tuesday, sounds like I need a new head unit. Dealer said there was another CX5 booked in with a similar problem next week. Clearly there's an issue with the Tomtom unit, not impressed!

Oh I'm glad I'm not alone. Mine went yet again this afternoon.

Here is a posting from a few weeks ago. SCROLL DOWN TO RESPONSE #7

The dealer has replaced the unit, and now it is not working again. I'm taking trips of 200 miles plus in the next two weeks up the M5, M6 & M56 and will be needed. I will be seeking an extension of my subscription time from TomTom soon.

I'm now wondering if in fact this is simply due to "down time"

We need to keep each other updated on this.

Alex

Thanks for sharing the info, it could well be that problem, I will need to wait until Tuesday to see. I can certainly feel something happening with the engine every few mins, silmilar to a misfire. I have never checked my oil level, from that post, its not clear if its related or not, but I will check it tomorrow.

Car is nearly a year old, was owned by the Mazda garage and I have had it a month and driven 800 miles, not a great start, hopefully sorted next week.

My live services haven't been working for over a week, I've been in contact with Tom Tom who have said that it appears to be a hardware issue, something to do with the system not recognising the sim card. When you start the car at first, immediately go to settings, then status, then version info, then network and see if it displays your network settings such as sim number, imei number etc.... The issue with mine is that it displays these settings for a couple of minutes when the car is first started, but then the system fails and the settings disappear.

I am booked into Mazda for next Friday for them to look at it.

Exactly the same as mine.

I just wish one party would take ownership of this, come clean say whether Mazda, TomTom or Network (Vodafone) and agree on the best solution.

Time might tell?

Alex

I had no idea the Nav had a sim card, learnt something.

I have recently gone on to vodafone, and find the phone signal in my area very patchy, even though when i checked the coverage map it claimed differently.

Of the three phones we have, virgin, O2, and vodafone, the latter has the worst signal in our area, O2 is the best by a long way.

Hi Alex,
Read the thread with interest, it describes my experience exactly, TT were polite but ultimately unhelpful. I'm hoping that the dealer will replace the TT head unit but clearly this may not resolve the issue. The car is brilliant but the edge is being taken off it by this niggling problem - so far the Dealership have been helpful, hopefully they will remain so! I'll update you as/when they get back to me.
Regards

Hi,
Twas the average for a 100 mile round trip.

I had an interesting experience yesterday, driving on the motorway, quite flat section and the consumption was showing mid to high 20's mpg - cruising at just under 70mph. Tried slowing down but it wouldn't get above 30 mpg. On the way back at the same speed it was showing 58 mpg? I realise that logging fuel and mileage at the pumps is the only reliable measure of mpg but surely the consumption gauge should be somewhere near.

Is your car a diesel? If so, the temporary low mpg may be because of particulate filter regeneration

The average consumption takes a little while to update but after 10 mins or so its fairly accurate and is only a couple of mpg off what you can calculate when you fill up. I presume you are looking at the instantaneous consumption. Use that to see how your consumption is when you are cruising. Typically for me, if I drive on a dead flat piece of road at 60mph, consumption is 65mpg, drive a bit slower and I can get it to 70mpg. So add in acceleration, weather, hills etc and it looks like my average will be around 50mpg on my 2nd ever tank., I am hardly qualified to talk from experience as you can see!

Although my mpg is great just now, can sitting in garage waiting to go to Mazda tomorrow to hopefully get the exhaust pressure sensor failure fixed, fingers crossed.

As prhac said, undoubtedly a dpf regen if you have a diesel. If you keep an eye on instant mpg you can't miss them, at mway speeds my mpg drops to mid 20's while these run. Haven't timed one, but they last a good few mins maybe 10 to 15.

Thought i'd share my experience of my CX-5 2.2D SE-L Nav. It was delivered after a torturous wait at the beginning of December, complete with a rattle in the dash and over inflated tyres.

That took the polish off it a little, and to be fair to my dealer, Magna Mazda Southampton, they offered to fix the dash on the day of delivery after i reported it.

I decided to leave it and see what else, if anything, popped up and so far i'm afraid to say more has.

My issues with the car are now:

1. Auto-locking not working on any setting (30s, 60s or 90s)
2. Intermittent boot locking issues. Latches, but does not lock - dealer advised this is a feature, that the boot will not lock if you try to close it too quickly in succession. Plausible?
3. Quick rear seat folding does not work with rear driverside seat. I have to physically force it down.
4. Draft through driver side door seal when at motor way speed.
5. Faulty washer fluid sensor - low fluid warning light does not come on when
6. Rattle from right side of dash (below bottom right corner of the windscreen)
7. iStop not kicking in all of the time. Sometimes requires a slight depression of the accelerator for it to start.
8. General poor fuel economy in urban and on motorways. Average 44mpg.
9. Cruise control not keeping speed when climbing hills and overspeeding while descending hills.

The last 2 are really disappointing. The fuel economy was the reason i chose the car over a Kia Sportage, and now regret it. The dealership have advised that i won't see an improvement until shortly before it's 1 years service (10000 miles). If i was getting 50mpg i wouldn't mind as i could understand the usual over inflation - but a 3rd short is plain wrong. I'm doing 60/40 - City/motorway. On my 2 most recent motorway runs of 200 miles and 500 miles i averaged 44.3 with the car generally half fuelled, with me the other half and a handful of bags.

The cruise control is a concern, as every other card i've had (Focus, Leon, i30) managed to keep to the set speed after a short delay while climbing or descending hills. The CX-5 just slows down on the climb and keeps going faster on the descent - there is no intelligence behind it, and i'm not talking about adaptive cruise control. I know it's a driver aid, but even on moderate hills on the motorway its a real issue - no other car i've owned with CC has had this problem.

Finally if you crack a windscreen expect to wait circa 10 days for a replacement. I had a stone chip turn into a 2" crack within 200 yards of the stone impacting the windscreen.

This is the second Mazda i've owned and it's likely to be the last if the list of issues grows any longer, and the dealership can't fix/explain away the issues. Have to say my experience with the dealership so far has been below average, but i'll see what they say/fix.

That's an epic list of issues, I hope you get them all resolved to your liking asap. I too purchased the CX5 because of the promise of good fuel efficiency. My driving is roughly 50/50 motorway / city. Unlike you I'm only averaging 38mpg even on long runs, this is a slight improvement on the 35mpg I was getting a few weeks back, hopefully this will improve more in the coming months as I do more miles, currently sitting just over 4000.

Think mine could well be a 3rd getting booked into Newport for the same issue. My Nav could usually be bribed into working by using Tomtom's website advice but in this past few weeks, no such luck.

I'm pushed to get 40 mpg. As a result I am slightly disappointed by the fuel return. (American cousins please bear in mind US gallons are different to Imperial)

I get the point about point 9 as when on Cruise control when descending the revs suddenly races up to 3,000 when in reality, they could drop to below 1,000 and make best use of overrun.

I-Stop, through most of the cold weather mine has not operated at all, bit of a useless feature in one respect, but not something I feel is of any importance.

My two biggies are......

TomTom Live. Not working again, and Mazda insist the dealer do a full assessment prior to ordering a replacement. After I complained to them, they promised to "escalate" which apparently means they will take 3 to 5 working days to even discuss a solution. Outrageous I feel considering my spend with Mazda thus far.

Oil level rising, at 6,000 miles I have had to pay for an oil change. At first I was cool about it, but following my poor experience re the sat-nav, I'm beginning to get spooked by other issues.

The ball is in Mazda's court to get the TomTom sorted

Quick update, car had a engine warning symbol and check engine warning. Seems that the exhause pressure sensor is the main culprit. The car is coming up on a year old, has 10'000km on the clock.

Took it Mazda yesterday, told them what I had heard and read on the internet, he said he would have a look. They called later in the day to say it's ready to pick up.

When I collected it, I asked what the problem was. I wish I could remember what the said but it was so vague and full of crap that I can't remember. The receptionist was ready to just give me the keys, then I asked what was wrong, the first tech looked at the Mazda service report, scratched his head, then another technician said something about a exhaust emmisions error that has been reset, probably just a sporadic error and it will be fine to drive again. So I told him about the pressure sensor and he said it wasn't that straight forward as there was a second error. So then a small argument/discussion about driving a car that has simply had the error reset. They assured me it's ok , they even done a test drive they said. So, I left the garage, drove 4km home.

Got up this morning, turned on the car and the alarm came back, went straight to the garage and told the receptionist that the alarm came back after 4km. She went to the workshop, told the tech, then came back and said a tech is coming to reception. Stood about for 10 mins, she popped her head through the door to the workshop twice, and eventually said they were too busy and just to leave the keys. So I made it clear it has to be a proper diagnositic and the suspect parts replaced. She said it would be fixed and of course they wouldn't simply reset it.

So lets see, I thought VW attitude was bad but this garage has far from impressed me so far!

Just finished the free trial of live services, paid online for the next year and all I get for the past 3 days is the spinning wheel, no services or connection, can't log into my account ,no sim id or details showing. Tomtom website says the Live Service is now working! Tried suggestions from Tomtom support pages-- factory reset/ allowing roaming details to be collected. Nothing worked, ended phoning Tomtom helpline who asked for readout from network information screen which said connecting and had blanks on sim id, model, mcc, diagnosed as hardware fault and needs a new headunit. Now off to mazda dealer to convince him its got a sim card and I don't mean the ssd map card.

The fuel consumption is a real issue. I wrote to Mazda and asked them about it and I could hardly believe what they said - along the lines of don't take the quoted figure as anything other than a guide! I made to point that I too chose the car partly because of the claimed mpg but they replied by saying it is only a comparative figure to be used against other vehicles.

Mine also has the rising oil issue, they took some out after 3,000 miles and now after 6,000 it is up to the 'X' again. Last time I asked the garage they just said 'don't worry about it'. They fitted a kit to stop the rattles, it improved things for a while and in certain circumstances but it still rattles too much for a new car costing 25k. I now have another 2 issues - it has started to throw out some dark smoke intermittently and there is a squeak/groan from the nearside rear suspension. It goes back into dock again next Thursday.

I have been a big fan of Mazda until now, having had 4 Mazda 6's over the past 10 years but I am having serious misgivings about them now.
