Whats up everyone, im looking to buy a head unit for my P5 but im not 2 sure of wich one to purchas. I prefer a pionear, and i was just wondering if anyone here has a pic, advice or a web site with some good quality head units i can take a look at..Thanx

depends on your price range and what you want out of it. i personally like Eclipse. they're not the flashiest deck in the world, but they're 100% quality.

You can check for ratings at sounddomain.com

I have the Pioneer DEH-P7600MP and I really like it. It matches pretty well with the car's interior.

best advice I can give you is to listen to them first. A lot of people just base their purchase off a review they read online (which is also a good idea) and then go to crutchfield or something. Believe it or not, there are pretty significant differences in the way headunits (in the same price range) sound. To this day, I've yet to hear a better sounding head unit than the Eclipse I had in my last car. The only reason I didn't spring for another Eclipse is because my OCD wouldn't allow me to get a reciever that didn't match my car's interior lighting. If that's not a big deal to you and price is no object, Eclipse is the way to go. Go to your local Tweeter (if you have one) and listen to them. Places like Best Buy and Circuit city are too damn loud to hear how they truly sound.

Looking for deck installation advice

OK, I am a total novice looking to upgrade the sound system in my 2002 P5. Nothing fancy, just some decent speakers and a deck with a little bit more power and clarity. The stock deck in the P5 is so big -- how does the installation of a replacement deck work and will it look OK? I looked on crutchfield.com and found the mod kit but am not sure if it'll look sloppy or not.
Does anyone have tips, photos, or advice? I've got the speakers now I just need to solve the deck dilemma . . .

if it were me, I'd look for a double din deck. your options will be seriously limited and the pricing is a bit higher, but IMO, the larger display and "stock-like" look make it worth it. I remember seeing a double din, silver kenwood in crutchfield last week.... with your silver center console, that would look pretty good.

 (rlaugh) (puke) sorry never been a fan of the double din radio. I think they

are to big & does that 1 even have rca output's for future upgrades?

i have a pioneer DEH 4400, its really slick and classy aftermartket looking, it has a settings for vokal, concert, SUPER BASS!!..... i really like it.

I personally wouldnt' mind having a larger display and bigger buttons on my single din but hey... to each their own. yeah, that one has 2 sets of preouts. based on what this guy has said, it doesn't seem like he's too interested in using them... but at least they're there.

Well, this is the best picture I have of mine:

It is a Pioneer DEH-4500MP (if I remember correctly). I ordered the filler bracket from buy.com I think.

I'll try and get a better picture after work today. Basically the bracket clips in and the stereo clips in the bracket. Under the stereo is a pocket for holding cds or whatever. The one I have has room for 2 cd jewel cases, but I think I have seen some with room for 3.

If it were me, i would go with the Clarion DX745MP... Clarion is the best clarity decks out there... and you can come by this unit for about $250 shipped, just have to search around! And their faceplates can change from a range of about 72 different colors!

make a list of things you that definately want (ie: mp3, # of pre outs, etc)
set your price range
go from there

that's what I did when I wanted a new head unit. Ended up with the Alpine 9827 and completely satisfied.

That's the deck I have! As nice as it is to hear you say they make the best clarity decks out there, I'm not so sure about that one. I mean, it's a pretty solid deck but... I acutally think the stock Kenwood that came with MSP sounded "marginally" better. Comparing the way it sounds to an Eclipse is just plain ridiculous! lol But hey... I'm certainly not complaining!

I am the 3rd one here with a Pioneer DEH-7600MP player. I have gotten a lot of compliments too on the OEL display. Girls dig it, but that is not the sole purpose of purchasing it. Pioneer has a solid reliability rating and this player has a lot of features for the money. I got it for $199 at www.thezeb.com (208 shipped). Alpine, Clarion, and Eclipse are all good head units too. Avoid Sony and for the past few years, Kenwood has not been too reliable.
