well some of you have seen my pedals, and yesterday/ today ive been working on them.

previously my pedals werent comfortable as they were too long, also they had no grip as they were just flat peices of 1/4" thick aluminum.

Heres what they were before:

and here are the almost done new (modified) ones:

just one more to go. damn my arm are tired from drilling. i need a drill press...

tell me what you think.

(also, if anyone is interested i might consider making more, so if you are interested in hiring me to make some custom pedals (my design or one of your own) shoot me a PM)

the accel pedal is attached with 2 metal bars/washers behind the pedal attached with bolts + nuts.

the clutch and break are drilled through the orig pedal (without rubber cover) and attached with bolt, washers, and nuts.

the dead pedal is velcroed right now as i have not figured out an easy way to attach it... and i might make a new, bigger one. (right now the dead pedal and accel pedal are identical)

basically they are done so they can be put back pretty much completely to stock if i want. (minus the holes in the clutch/ break, but those are covered with the rubber covers)

It's nothing but a plastic block(perfect for screwing something into) behind the dead pedal. :)

i was thinking of just using some short bolts and attaching it to that plastic dead pedal, but i didnt feel like going through the trouble of taking off the carpet that its attached to. what can i say, i was lazy... ;)

good job man :) must have been a bizatch to do. much props - chris

thanks for the compliments guys.

yeah it was a real b****. especially when i didnt have a proper drill bit... i was using a masonry bit for the big holes.... :p

great job I couldnt find pedals I liked yet but now I think I will try to make my own. Great job. Where did you get the aluminum from.

hey, those look like my pedals..........................except i PAID for mine, and i also didnt buy a dead pedal because i couldnt figure out how to attach it.............................great job, very IS300-ish

i just had some aluminum scrap laying around from another project.

heres my process for all those who want to make their own:

1. measure. measure. and then do it again. make sure everything will fit the way you want. i took off the stock rubber covers as a guide, and traced the accel pedal, drawing out what i wanted on paper first.

watch for where you want to drill (or not drill) the pedals, as some places are much better than others avoid the welds on the back and the slope around the edges.

2. once you have the plan, mark up where you need to cut on the piece of metal and cut the metal. i used a jigsaw with a metal cutting blade, and some oil every once and a while so it wouldnt overheat or sieze up.

3. grind down your cuts smooth, or shape the pedal the way you want I made the curve at the bottom with a bench grinder.

4. find the right hardware (bolts, washers, nuts) and plan your drill sizes accordingly. i dont remember what sizes i used... :p

5. Mark your holes, and tap where you need to, then drill the holes. holes that would hold the bolts i drilled, then used a larger drill bit to drill about 1/2 way into the piece so the head of the bolt would be countersunk and not protruding. For the larger holes i used a small drill bit to make a lead hole, then the larger drill bit to follow. cool off the metal after each hole or it can become pretty fuskin' hot.

6. sand down the whole shabang with some o that metal sandpaper (you dont have to , but i do and it works well, its the grayish stuff, silicon or something, i dunno) be sure to sand down the edges making a kind of bevel. Afterwards i used a block sander and ran it in one direction to get a nice even look on the surface.

7. Take pedals to the car and mark where you need to drill, measure it to be sure. I just marked it through the holes of the pedals. sometimes im too lazy to be really precise. i put some wood under the pedals just in case, and proceded to drill the holes.

8. Attach pedals with bolts, nuts and washers. Drive it around, see if you are happy with your pedals. (i wasn't the first time, so i cut them down to what you see now) adjust accordingly.

----------

for the accelerator, since i didnt want to drill, i took some galvanized 32 gauge steel since i had it around and cut it to little rectangle bar shapes, then drilled holes where i needed them to clamp on the pedals. then i slipped them over the pedals and tightened down the bolts like mad, i can take a picture if anyone needs this part more detailed, since im bad at discribing it.
----------

happy building.

Nice job ... to REALLY finish it off you should do one of two things...

1. Hit up a skate shop and get some grip tape (that sand paper looking stuff) in whatever color you choose and apply it to areas of the pedals for extra stick. You dont want your foot to slide off if your feet are wet.

or ... what would be my personal choice...

2. Hardware Store/Car Audio Store ... get some rubber grommets and install then into the holes you drilled so you have a nice rubber ring around each -- great for grip!

Pe@ce

thanks :)

i am still contemplating my grippiness choices. It's all good for now though, it shouldnt rain for another 4 months or so.
