Hid Bulbs

Yeah, but HID's cost a shitload more, and devalue your car...believe it or not. Of course, any mod will devalue the car.

Well, it all depends on how much being able to see at night is worth to you. $200 vs $40 may be a fair diffrence for lighting costs, but I do 60% of my riding after 11pm so being able to see at night is well worth the cost of the kit. I have tried Silverstars, imported Phillips vision plus bulbs from germany. While both were a minor improvement over stock bulbs, it wasn't enough of a change to justify the cost. You paid $40 for a minor change, I paid $200 for a HUGE change.

And yeah, everything that isn't stock will devaule a car, which is why my car remains stock....outside of the hand-me-down silverstars that I took out of my bike and installed in the car.

HID's are completely worth it when you drive in situations where lighting is non-exisistant. If you're just going for the look and never go outside of city driving, don't even bother, the only thing you'll get out of it is "damn they're so bright they out shine the street lights on the pavement" and that's about it.

Bottom line is that yes, real HID's are far, far superior to any HID style bulb. But if you could only afford the $40 SilverStars then that is a good uprade for the money. But if you could afford the hundreds of dollars for a true HID conversion then that is a good upgrade for the money. They are both good deals, it just depends on affordability.

I run SilverStars and I love them. But I still really want a true HID kit. It's just that I can't afford to buy them now. So does that mean that I got "ripped off"?

ok so i need to get some replacement HID bulbs.. prob gonna go 10000k..whats a good brand of bulbs and where can i get theM?
If you want a nice look go for 7500k piaa lights bulb. I have the 4700k and it does the job. Or if you carry a H4 light bulb 8000k will do. A 10000k bulb will be hard to find. Just go for the HID Kit if you want to go that high.

Not at all. You got what you paid for. $40 for a moderate improvement in lighting. And for those who opt for HID's...great. But if you're getting 10k bulbs, you're NOT getting them for lighting. They'll just be a nice glaring purple that will make anyone under 16 say "Wow, those are COOL!".

Hahaha! It's hard to express what you really mean on the net. But yeah, I was just trying to say that I didn't get ripped off. I wasn't really asking.

Why would police check for high beams on a DUI stop?

Well honestly the best and optimal hid bulb is 5600K so 6K is the best rought to go mainly white and very bright. Now anything appove that will only change the coloring. You will lose a little of your viewing compared to 6K but compared to a halogen bulb you are brighten the road. Now i have 12K in my MSP and they are purpleish, they are still bright as hell, i get flashed all the times by on coming traffic, But when i'm in a pitch black road they do brighten the road up. I have no complaints out of them. Oh and i have Dual bulbs so i still have high beams useless as they may be but they are there for just incase DUI stops where police check everything. HID are worth having if you have the money to spend.

HID no matter what you K you get will improve your vision compared to what you have. 4300 is the brightest and whitest sight possible. So that would be the best bet to get you. After that the only thing that changes is forsay tinting (coloring). As it has a color its like a tint it limits the light output a little (say 10% if that), its not to noticeable (at least for me). I"ve had 4300, 6,000 (white/blue), 8,000(blue), 10,000 (blue/purple) and currently in the MSP i have 12,000 (a purple look). It looks really good an functions perfect i see the road as clear as day. The choice is always up to what you want.
