Replacing 2014 CX-5 HID Lightbulb

I have HID headlights (not regular ones) in my 2014 Mazda CX5. Are there any tutorials online that show how to replace it? Do I need to remove the front bumper to get to it, or are there easier ways? Thanks!

Near as I can tell, you just stick your hand under the fender, unhook the wire, then twist and remove the bulb,
I was able to twist open this big round cover. Inside looks like the HID light. It moves left and right when I push it. I think that's the directional feature of the bulb.

However, I don't know how to get it open to get to the light bulb. It's super cramped and I barely can get my fingers in there.

Any tips?

Process can be found here: Mazda CX-5 Service & Repair Manual - Headlight Bulb Removal/Installation - Exterior

It's about halfway down the page, starting at step 8 for HID bulbs. These instructions detail the removal of certain parts in order to more easily access the low beam bulbs. On the LH side, you're supposed to remove the fuse block, and on the right hand side, you're supposed to remove the windshield washer tank bracket. Ensure that you disconnect the negative battery terminal before working on the HID lights, and be sure to clean the bulbs with isopropyl alcohol and avoid touching the glass part of the bulb during the installation process.

One owner mentions jacking the car up and removing the wheels to pull the fender liner back, then reaching up to more easily access the bulb, instead of removing the fuse block and tank bracket (see link below). You might be able to get enough room by just cranking the wheel all the way to the right or left and then pulling the liner back.

Pish-posh! On our 2014 I replaced the low beam (projector) bulbs with HID units and did it without removing anything else. It's a pain, I agree, and I may have sacrificed some blood to the God of Mechanics, but it IS do-able. :)

If the headlamps on your 2014 were not HID to begin with, then maybe the mounting is different as ours swivel from side to side when turning and there is a mechanism for that?

On the other hand, after 11 years and 145k miles of driving, my HIDs still work just fine.

Oh, wow, I wasn't even aware that those were available back then. But, no, my Touring/Tech does not have that.

Thank you so much. I'll take a read. Are there any videos online that show someone doing this? I can't find any HID bulb replacement videos for the CX5. Feels like a huge pain to get that part replaced without having to dismantle part of the car, which I've never done and want to avoid. :(

It's intimidating at first, especially if you're not familiar with working on cars or taking things apart. Dealerships in particular will prey on this intimidation to get you to pay them to do it at an inflated cost.

If you're not interested in having the dealership do it, you can buy replacement bulbs online and take them to an independent shop, who will be much more likely to offer a reasonable hourly rate.

And don’t grip / touch the glass part of HID bulb with your fingers directly when you replace the bulbs.

On YouTube, there's a video from Precision LED, "Mazda CX5 LED Headlights and Fog Lights- How to Install (2013+)". I assume it would apply to HID also.
