Hiboost + cold = nothing

It is damn cold out today. Possibly into the single digits. I didn't even try starteing my car this morning. Gave it a whirl this afternoon. It sputtered, and would run really bad for about half a second, and then die.

Pretz: What oil are you running? I would honestly see if you can get your hands on some IRIDIUMS from NGK and untill Juan tweaks the maps a bit more, get your hands on a battery charger/starter.
I'm running Mobil 1 5w30

I'm sorry, what plugs should I pick up, and do the pose any sort of threat to my engine?

Edit: am I going to have to pull the plugs again to get this thing running, or is there another way to get it started.

I use NGK BKR6E for the plugs (6 is one step colder then stock, the 7 heat range is two steps colder, and might not be the best to run in the winter from what I hear, and it's pretty damn cold here). I gap mine at .28-.30 currently, so they spark easily for me.

I've been looking at upgrading my ignition setup soon to improve the spark and make it easier to spark in all conditions with a slightly wider gap.

Threat... NO...NGK Iridium Regular or Extended...they are the BEST plugs... I have tested them ALLLLLL

they just happen to be the best in the winter also (that is my point).

Pretz...do you have a notebook? If so.... plug it into the Haltech... go into the settings and TURN off the injectors....

Then Crank the crap out of the engine..... BUT... you need to really be connected to an external charger/jumper source during this process or you will drain the battery.

If you do not have a notebook... do a search and find out how to disable the injectors (i believe through a fuse or something).. than crank the engine over (but again..you need a power source).

TRUST ME ON THE SPARK PLUGS...give it a try.

I don't have a notebook (yet), but I do know which fuse to pull.

Pretz...its a temp solution..but do you have a charger with a "starter / jump" feature...?

I use mine (like today...MINUS 25 Celcius..Windchill of MINUS 35).

I was looking at them while at Autozone. Any suggestions?

We have different Brands here in Canada...but my charger has a 10AMP starter mode that I connected to the battery before I attempt to start in these ULTRA low temps... most of the time it starts up (reluctantly) without the starter...but today I did not take that chance.

You don't have to spend a lot...get a low/mid range battery charger/starter.

Update: got the new plugs in. From a cold start after she had cooled down, it fired up and idled MUCH better.

Of course, the real test is whether she will start after sitting out in the cold all night.

Thats the problem with colder plugs and tighter gaps.

We have a new ignition system coming out that will fix all of these probems and more.

Shameless plugger.

It better run. I want my tires I didn't pay for yet, dammit.

Update: car won't start. Temperature is about negative three. s***.

Pretz couple of Qs: Do you end up getting a starter/charger? What type of battery are you running? And did you install the new plugs?

Did the battery die? or do you think the plugs are wet?

-6 Ferinheit.... this morning...and I autostarted with my compustar alarm... took 2 attempts..but started.
