Hiboost + cold = nothing

I know I have trouble starting my car now at just in the 40's Ferinheit. I need a better battery that won't ***** out it's charge.

Pretz couple of Qs: Do you end up getting a starter/charger? What type of battery are you running? And did you install the new plugs?
Did install the new plugs. Still running stock battery. Have not bought a starter/charger yet.

Did the battery die? or do you think the plugs are wet?
The battery did not die. It will crank and sputter, but will not run.

sorta when its about to "catch" ...when its just about to ignite and hold... you add a bit of peddle...
Yup. Every time I do that it runs like s*** and then dies.

Pretzel.. I've been dealing a bit with this with one of my customers... there is a half ass worked around if you want it... take an allen wrench and adjust the idle set screw to open it up more.. you'll idle high as hell (like 2500 or so) but it will start much easier. We've gotten around it completely a couple of times and then messed up other stuff.... so I'm trying to narrow down exactly the cases that drive that condition. Unfortunately I'm doing most of it over the phone so it's not as quick and I can't try as much.. but if I get it figured out I'll let you know... but that will require a modification to the tune on your Haltech... which I don't know if you've gotten that laptop to try it yet. but for now try cracking open the TB more.. BUT make sure you keep EXACT track of how much you do that because you will need to get it back to where you started from or you will have other problems later. (high idles and the like).

Moving the idle screw is different than feathering the throttle because of how the computers and EMS's read and deal with idle conditions...

Later!

Dude, the stock battery is WEAK for cold temperatures. I had this problem. It possibly could be a power issue? When you crank, does it turn over fast like it is fixing to start, or is it a weak turnover?

i dunno man i use a crappy wal mart battery right now and it cranks ok. i agree that adjusting the throttle body screw helps.

It's pretty weak. Any suggestions for a good battery? Should I drop some cash on a red-top?

my red top was horrible, frankly. i'd go with a yellow top or something heavy duty from Sears. honestly you can't beat Die Hard

So the optimas aren't worth it, eh?

I hear that the Yellow tops are not good for a starter battery, bu the red tops are supposed to be gold.

I am running the STOCK in the engine bay and a yellow top in the trunk.

I found that with the STOCK battery by itself...there wasn't enough cranking amps available to really kick the motor into turning quickly enough.

I would recommend the RED TOP ...but you can't go wrong with a kick ass Diehard.

Sadly, it is true DieHard's pretty much kick ass... there is one other brand too that I think Battery's Plus carries as their house brand... andt hose are quite impressive... the one thing Optima does well if you want it is a lightweight battery...
