Protege5
Hi!

I've been lurking around off and on for about 2 years, pretty much since I bought my Protege5. I've finally gotten to the point where I have a bit of extra money, so I figure actually being able to post and ask questions would be worthwhile!

I've got an 03 Protege5 that I bought in August of 2007. She had 84000 kilos on her when I bought her, and I've got her up to a little under 112. She's a great ride, and drives beautifully - funny story though, as when I first got her I thought she was a loud ride, but I put it down to me picking nits about my first car and the fact that it was the first time I had driven a car with lopro tires. About six months ago, I noticed that I was pulling to the left, and that the ride had become noticeably louder, so I took her in and apparently the bearing had gone on the front driver's side! Luckily it was covered under my warranty, but when I picked her up from being repaired I noticed that it was quiet. Very quiet.

The damn bearing had been going since I bought the car! (hand)

So, now I have a quiet ride, and I'm averaging an additional 80 to 100km a tank!

So yeah, that's my story. I'm looking at doing a few mods to my car - simple things first (tinting the windows!) and more complex things later (cold air intake and -possibly- a cat back exhaust).

As to none car stuff, I'm a big videogame player due to my day job as a manager of a game store. I belong to a group called the XMG (Xbox Mature Gamers) and I play on Live a lot (Gamertag: GrimLuk). I also read and enjoy taking long walks with my dog (when he's not in the car getting his nose all over the windows).

I'd post some pictures of the car, but she's in need of a wash and is pretty much a completely stock Midnight Blue Protege5.... for now.

Well welcome to the forum, you've definitely had a lot of luck with your car. It's awesome that you've been enjoying the car as it is for so long. It's just a matter of time before the mod bug bites. Just remember that it bites hard! While the car isn't the fastest thing on four wheels, you can definitely do some mods (intake, exhaust, short throw shifter?, suspension upgrade?) that will make the car that much more fun for you.

Cool Welcome but i wouldn't consider cold air intake a complex mod

Ah, yes, the one thing I didn't mention: I'm a complete newb when it comes to cars and working on them. I can do a lot of things, but when it comes to my car... well, I have good friends who know much more than I do, and they're terribly patient when I ask ridiculous questions.

Hopefully you guys are too!

Then might I suggest:

  1. The How To section of the forum, most come with great pics. Monkey see monkey do!
  2. Protege FAQ, a website with a lot of information just for our cars. Answers a lot of questions you may have. I used it A LOT when I first got my car.

I got addicted to the how-to section for a while until I realized I need to save up for some of the stuff to do! Definitely upgrade suspension, do the stock intake mod, get a rear strut tower bar off ebay for $22!

Thanks for the welcomes.

I see what you mean about being addicted Psylence - I spent a few hours reading through the how-to stuff last night and learning about all the cool stuff I can do.

Welcome to the Forum. Your one stop shop of other people wanting to spend your money. (hahaha) Cold air intake is not hard, just don't have other people work on it. I would have my tinting done by a shop because usually they will offer a warranty and you can keep taking it back if it was not done right. Audio is a upgrade you might look into as us P5s have crappy 25W speakers stock. I have energy saving light bulbs that consume more power.

Anyways if you are on Halo 3 anytime just hit me up. You can usually find me in Team Swat or Team Snipers most of the time. My gamertag is widgit117 kinda like on here.
