Here is why street racing is bad kids...

i know, i went back and read the rest of your post after I posted and I completely agree with everything...I just had a thought when I read 'but there isn't a track near me'. and i wanted to write it down before I forgot.

Thought so. That comment was there case a huge agruement on the forums there was that not everyone has a track etc.

. . .and lets not forget that alot of the street racers are under the age of 18, and can't race on the track anyway....in fact they aren't even established drivers.

The center of my town has a rotory, those of you from new england or Washington DC know what those are. Two weeks ago a kid who only had his licence a week went straight through the rotory fence and hit a tree in the center. He was going about 80mph in his parent's SUV when he reached the rotory. The speed limit on all the roads leading up to the rotory is between 15-30mph

Granted it wasn't a pimped out honda civic or ford mustang, but it still makes you think.

racing or not, he was still driving 100 mph on a public road (and not a freeway, from the looks of it). just b/c you're not "racing" doesn't mean it's not irresponsible or dangerous.

people say, "oh, but he wasn't racing!" oh, i'm sorry. extremely high speeds are only dangerous if there are TWO cars doing it. gotcha.

again, it's a shame, but it's not anyone's fault but his. i feel bad for his family most of all.

Oh, I agree, sorry, didn't mean to sound otherwise. It's just that I read the second article in the first post and it didn't mention racing or speed....

of course that's not the whole story, i know :(

Its strange after losing some people to wrecks cause by unsafe driving I feel more angry than truely sad. Its sad they arent here anymore, but how and why they died is not.

Papers often leave out the true details to keep the victim from appearing bad, in respect. There was a kid who wrecked here in VA going around a corner and hitting a light pole. The paper made it seem like he was just a aspiring high school student. When in truth he was almost failing; however, he was also drunk and on drugs at the time.
They still have a memorial setup on the pole almost 3 years later.

I have to agree with most of the comments about street racing in this thread. I used to do it...my dad actually taught me how to race when i was around 14. Most of the people i used to race were the same way, we all learned how to drive at an early age, we all knew the dangers involved and tried to minimize the risks to ourselves and other people. In a small town you can kind of do that, ie lots of back roads that aren't traveled with good straights. It's gotten to the point now, I'd say with-in the past year or so that I point blank refuse to race any more unless it's on a track. It's gotten too risky, the people that have tried to race me are so scared to actually do it that I honestly believe that if something were to happen they would freak and have no idea how to correct the situation. I specifically remember one kid asking me to race his mustang, and just talking to this kid he was visually shaking he was so nervous. Alot of my friends don't see my reasoning behind it, but personally I think with the amount of unskilled drivers and the lack of experience from age out there it's just not worth it anymore. Sorry for the rant, just thought I'd express my views.

Same here 20ESGUY, the extent to which people will go to win or even race has gotten way to dangerous. There is very little respect or education on their part to understand the car in some cases. Mix this with young age and cockness and you have a forumla for trouble.
