Help with a sound/vibration...

:
2003 Mazda Protege5
So before I start with my issue I will address this:

Yes I have searched the forum, yes I have a base idea of what it could be, this thread is to get other opinions plus I have a video to help.

The issue I am having is that my Protege5 likes to vibrate quite a lot at idle, but will stop the instant ANY bit of throttle is applied. As you can tell in the short video, when I hit the throttle then let it idle again, it will go from smooth to all of a sudden rough and loud at idle.

From what I have read, the EGR valve can cause this, bad motor mounts can too, and possibly timing belt? This thread is simply to get you pro's out there to see if you have heard or know what this vibration is. If not then I guess all 3 will get done and hope for the best lol.

Video: (might have to turn up your speakers as it is a tad quiet.)

Thanks again to any help received.

that video really did not have much sound to it. maybe film under the hood so we can hear it better. is it more of a sound or vibration that concerns you? does it sound like something is loose? does it sound like something hitting something else? try running some seafoam through it and see if it just needs a cleaning. pull the egr valve hoses off and blow air through to see if there is a blockage. is the check engine light on or has it come on? was the a/c on when you noticed it? mine vibrates some and gets louder with the a/c going. try turning off the a/c if it was on. may have a dirty idle air control valve try cleaning it. to check the motor mounts have someone rev the engine while you watch for it dipping or moving. is your oil filled full?

...my Protege5 likes to vibrate quite a lot at idle, but will stop the instant ANY bit of throttle is applied....

Check your IAC valve.

The IAC is in control of idle with zero throttle.

As soon as any throttle is applied,... the ECU takes over.

I think you should clean or replace the IAC valve.

i suggested the same thing lol

i suggested the same thing lol

I didn't notice that till after I posted,... lol. but I think his throttle symptoms point right at the IAC.

I think he should start there.

I couldn't get that video to work,... I got redirected to join Yahoo or something ???

EDIT: I got the video to work,...

I'm changing my mind,... I think your idle is fine,... I think you have something vibrating while it is idling.

,... to check the motor mounts have someone rev the engine while you watch for it dipping or moving,....

^^ What he said,...

So you guys suggest checking IAC and mounts. Any way to check the mounts without removing the whole engine?

As far as getting maybe a better video, i can later today if it would help?

I couldn't get the video to work.but I had the same vibration every time id give it gas it'd go away. It was the hood stoppers, loosen them up maybe itll fix it

A video of the engine while your car is idling would help.

I'm thinkin your engine is bouncing around and hitting due to sloppy mounts,.. It sounds like a "muffled thumping" to me.

Your idle seems fine,.. your tach is dead on and it isn't fluctuating. (so I don't think it's your IAC)

I don't think you have a problem "WITH" your idle,... I think you have a problem "WHEN" it's idling.

Did this start happening all of a sudden or did it more gradually start making noise ??

yeah i noticed his tach is not jumping or moving around at idle after watching again. something is definitely rattling. mounts or something loose

Here is that idling of the engine itself video: https://flic.kr/p/qS2qnd

As far as the noise, it has been happening for a while and did not happen before. I do not remember exactly when it started but I know my car was never that loud before at idle in the cabin so.

OK now I'm confused,... That video looked and sounded normal to me ???

By the way,... your video works on my computer but my phone gets redirected to join Yahoo ???

Maybe try a can of Seafoam,.. Half in the gas and half in the brake booster vacuum line.

It's ten bucks a can and might just smooth it out enough to stop the rattle/vibration,...

I can try some Seafoam. Me and my dad were gonna do that when we have our "maintenence day".

Maybe thatll be it, but as far as mounts ive discussed gettings new ones as im not even sure if theyve ever been replaced. I know OEM would be expensive but woule AWR be too hard fo daily driving? Or are their other options
