I just sold my boat and have about 1100 to spend on my car...

i was told that evo II exhaust was good?

whats the best to do 1st?

what u looking to do? apperance? go? audio?

id just suggest intake as a first mod.

do a search also, this topic has been discussed many many many times :)

welcome to the board

peace

Springs/struts were my first mod. Then intake/axleback combo, but it all depends on what you want out of the car.

I would wait on ANY engine mods until you decide wether or not to go turbo. If you buy a Header and intake, it won't work with a turbo kit and you waste money.

I suggest saving up for a turbo kit, or do some suspension and wheels when you have the money.

is evo II a good exhaust?

also i would very much like a turbo on it.....but is there alot of engine upgrades required 1st? i have no idea where to begin

maybe an ECU reflash maybe? tuners say its crucial for good horsepower. try vishnu, but you'll have to send your ecu box. especially if youre going to the DArk Side, you can't get a set of headers, it would be a waste of mula. (drinks)

You can put a turbo kit on your car with no engine mods, just some management system.

You can get 215 wheel horsepower with a kit on a stock engine. That WONT happen if you don't use forced induction.

Anything more than 215 HP and you might want to start thinking about more upgrades.

It gets a little expensive, but why waste your money on stuff that shows MINIMAL gains.

See my sig.

first mod, i'd say go rims. makes any car look alot better. But if you're interests are go, then get an exhaust system from the headers back...no headers(since you mention possible turbo plans). Or, if you want some fun, hook up a nice stereo system.

dude save ur cash and go turbo.....but if your not into power right away i would say go with suspension and appearance...ie: rims and rubber or front lip, eyelids, CF hood......

but when u start modding u aint never gonna stop....hahahaa

Welcome! Here is info I try to pass onto all the newbies who join up.

Right after I got my P5, I got the intake. You have the short ram intake (SRI), which is what I have. Others have cold air intakes (CAI) They are about the same on ebay, but you may also opt for name brand. I have the ebay...

The next thing I did was get rid of those god forsaken Dunflop piece of s*** stock tires. I hydroplaned within the first week or so I owned the P5. I ended up with the Yokohama AVS ES 100's. 205-50-16's on the stock rims. There are a bazillion threads about tires. These I highly recommend for rainy climates. (Bottom line, get out of the stock tires before you have a problem!)

I just got (after 2.5 years of owning my car) a Racing Beat exhaust. I got an insanely good deal on it. It is on the higher end of the pricing range, but you can score one used at a good rate if you are on the forum within the .245 seconds someone posts it for sale used. They run in the high $400 range new. There is a Mazda Sport (Mazdaspeed) exhaust which is also popular, but people have complained of droning, or an annoying sound at freeway speeds. The Racing Beat does not do that. But there are a bazillion threads about the exhaust subject too, look them up.

Then there is the tinting of windows, a stereo, springs/shocks/body kit, carbon fiber everything, etc you will see around here for sale.

Short shifter was next on my list. I got a B&M, as I am tall, and did not want to reach so far down. Kartboy makes a great short shifter, too, so does TWM. The Kartboy shifter bushings are a must.

I found by moving to synthetic engine and transmission fluids, I get better mileage, and it shifts smoother too. So easy to do, it is worth it.

One more thing you should consider when you mod is a header. OBX and Ractive are the most common. I just installed the Ractive, and love the HP gains. Be sure to look up the Spark Plug non-fouler trick for the 2nd o2 sensor. It prevents the CEL from coming on.

Well, good luck, and check out the for sale section, and work with the Authorized Venders and sellers! Oh, search for threads about a question you might have. Most likely, it has been covered.

yeee. the greddy evo2 cat-back is sweeet! i can vouch for that. if you're going turbo later, i'd suggest a MAM midpipe and a cat-back for now to let your engine breathe. maybe even a cheap ebay intake just so you don't go spending lots of cash on something you won't be using down the line. suspension is always a good mod. some better shocks and a good set of springs will make your ride a whole lot sweeter. or if you're feeling sassy, get some good coilovers. then there's the sway bars and some nice rims & tires. you could also go the aftermarket stereo route, but that doesn't really make your car any faster... if that's what you're going for. i've actually found that i'm listening to my stereo less now that i've installed a full exhaust system... oh the sweet sounds of n/a. (lol2) and yes i may be rambling... i may also be (drunk)

edit: and yes, what boo-boo says is true... once you start the mods, you can't stop. oh my god, just look at my credit card bill... haha

i think that if you want to start off with a turbo, that stripper kit from MAM sounds good. It's relatively cheap, and sounds easy to upgrade too.
