HELP? TPMS Light on after swapping to RX8 wheels...

Hi Everyone,

I just put some RX8 wheels (with their TPMS sensors in them) on my 08 speed3 and now the TPMS light comes on everytime the car is on.... does anyone have the remedy to make the light go off and the have computer recognise the new sensors?

Thanks :D

Wrong sensors. You need to swap the sensors from the S3's wheels to the RX-8 set. The radio frequencies are different for the two systems.

Hmmm...there have been members who have put the RX-8 wheels on with its TPMS and the light doesn't come one (including me and a few others on this forum).

Ok well then, another cause: One of the sensors may have been damaged when the rubber was mounted on the rim. Did you change the meat on the rim too? Some places can test the radio freq. at each wheel to see if all the freq. are the same. I'm just trying to help.

The TPMS sensors are the same for the RX-8 and the Speed. However, you're now using different sensors, so the ECU doesn't recognize them. The dealer can hook up and have it recognize the new sensors. Might be cheaper than the swap. You could try the procedure in the manual, but I suspect it won't work.

Did you put the wheels on an 09 RX-8 on your car?

We got an 08 RX-8 in the driveway I wouldnt mind swapping wheels with, but those 09 Wheels look sexy.

Pix of them on the speed3?

Whoops, my bad. If they're '09 RX wheels, they're probably not the same. When I did my homework, the part numbers were the same for both cars.

Theyre not my 09 wheels, those stay on the rx8 (headbang)

The RX8 wheels I put on the speed3 are from an 06 or 07. I did not change the tires on them so the sensor(s) were not damaged.

The manual gives a procedure? Hmmmmmmm.....

The dealer can recalibrate the sensors to mate with your car, otherwise the procedure involves something to the effect of driving at a constant rate of speed for 5 miles. I'm sure it's been discussed if you search for it.

They use the same type of sensors. My RX-8 wheels came with sensors (ebay, FTW!) and required no shenanigans to get them to work. The lights were on right after I put them on, but that was because the tires were a bit low. I took a short drive to the gas station, filled them to spec, and the lights went out.

Interesting, I will check the pressures and see if that fixes it. Thanks for your input

haha. Well if you ever decide to rim out the RX-8... remeber my screen name on this forum. I love the 09 RX-8 wheels, and we would have an 09 in our driveway if the 08 wasn't priced soo nice.(bang)

The 09 R3 wheels are $2100.00 EACH RIM from Mazda. Yes you read that right.... PLUS TIRES and 19" tires arent cheap. So brand new they would cost an easy 9 grand for the full set wrapped. I wouldnt consider selling them for under 8 grand, they only have 1700 miles on them. I need to keep them though so when I eventually sell the car it will have all of the R3 components with it to maintain its value.

Wow - I'm flabergasted by the cost of the R3 rims. They're nice, but man!!!

Thats just retarded !! I'd be afraid to drive it with 9 grand worth of wheels. Every bump in the road must seem huge, when you start thinking about wheel replacement. Wonder if they have supplemental rim insurance, lol.

Actually, I was quoted at $1236.00 per wheel for the 19x8 forged R3 wheels when I asked out of curiousity the last time I was pricing out a part...

Still ridiculous, though not as ridiculous as $2100.......

True...true.

Interesting. Someone mentioned 2100 per rim in either this forum or an RX8 forum.... I couldnt believe it so I called my dealer and asked. I was quoted 2100 + some change.... so thats 2 people telling me 2100/ea.
