For brakes I would suggest you visit here

I am running the centric rotors and posi-quiest ceramics and they are perfect for a DD. Can't beat the free shipping either.

As for tires, how much snow are you talking about? I really don't think you are going to find the compromise that you are looking for.

My last set of all-seasons (Kumho AST's) were great in the wet and dry and the first PA winter they were used (practically new). Fast forward to the next winter and I had trouble getting out of my neighborhood with them in 1" of snow.

This spring I bought a dedicated set of winter tires/wheels and would suggest the same if you live anywhere that will get or has the potential to get a lot of snow.

Check out my review of the Hankook Ventus HRIIs here. I don't know where you are, so I don't know how much snow you get, but if you get about as much as I do here in Louisville, Ky, they should work for you. Plus, the extra 10mm is VERY GRIPPY!

thanks!!!

i live in new york(yonkers area)

i get a decent amount of snow. but yonkers is a very hilly area

anyone ever get wagner brakes from midas?(i ahve a 80% feeling they suck hard)

or i can get front brake pads from hawks while the brakes from midas is 40 installed.

I had brembo c/s rotors with hawks for about 75k miles. The pads were a bit dustier than oem but worked great & were quiet enough for DD. All 4 corners wore very evenly. The rotors were toast after 75k-nothing to reface. Running Lomandi kevlar metallic pads with new r1 c/s rotors. Pads are much better as far as dust. Same stopping goodness. Seem to be a little easier on the rotors so far. Only have 7k on the new setup. Goodridge ss brakes lines firmed up the pedal nicely. Made more difference (improvement) in braking than the rotor/pads did IMO.

I have had it with the standard tires. Let's face it they are noisy as all heck, they last nothing (I think they even were out parked in the garage)(killit), and they cost a fortune to replace if you can find them (usually a special order).

I have switched to a larger tire 205 55 16 Bridgestone Potensa's RE960AS from Sams (paid about $85 per) and so far all is good. The larger size just fits and raises the car about 1/2 inch but it is all worth it. The highway noise is now all but gone (incredible). The fuel milage is actually slightly better. It is tricky to measure since the odometer error is about 5% but the effect is like having a higher gear. i.e. the engine rpm is slower for the same speed due to the larger diameter tire. So far I have 10k miles on them and no noticable wear (tires are rated at 50k miles life I believe). The handling is slightly different but it still feels great.

One last benefit to me is the lack of scraping of the front spoiler coming down off my steep driveway.

Anybody else do this change?
