HELP! Oil Pressure Gauge Install

I just used a teflon paste, cause the sender IS grounded through the threads. Dude man, do what you want, but if your pointless dummy light comes on because you weren't watching the gauge you spent all this effort trying to install, you engine is already ******.

why you getting mad cause i wanna keep my light. :(

Maxx, did you just hand tighten the sendor on to the block? I got my parts from mcmaster.com in today, and the sendon will NOT screw into the T. and i bought the correct T. well, i bought the one everyone said to get. the T will not screw into the adapter either. They both go about 1/2 way and then stop. I'm pretty fed up cause I wasted money trying to buy these T's/adapters, and none of them will work. And I made sure, double sure, I was ordering the right adapter/T. I'm just gonna zip tie the s*** and screw it right into the block itself. Very aggrivating after paying for priority shipping to find out it wont even work.

:(

You have the right parts. They are NPT (natural pipe thread) fittings. That means they're tapered and so the farther you screw them in, the tighter they get. They shouldn't go in all the way. I used a wrench to tighten my Autometer sender, but BE CAREFULL it's an aluminum block and if you strip those threads even once, you're ******. Not to mention al lthe metal shavings you'll get in the engine. Just use a wrench to get it in tight, but not like deathly tight.

Cause I really don't see the point. Did you get the gauge just for looks, or are you actually planning on using it? If it's the latter, you shouldn't need a light to tell you when your pressure is low. If you got the gauge just for show, then by all means keep the light so you know if your oil pressure gets too low. I jsut don't see the point of going to all that trouble for a stupid little light that doesn't do anything.

i dunno, i guess its just the feeling of keeping the default light there, no real reason, just because i guess. and of course i got the gauge to monitor the psi, otherwise it'd be a waste of money. thanks for all the feedback, i should be doing the install today.

install aint gonna happen until next weekend, couldnt get into the shop. i went ahead and wired everything and it lights up and stuff. btw, if i hook everything up except the sender, would the needle move at all? just curious if i got all the connections right. all it does so far is lightup, no movememt, but i doubt it will move, cause the sender is not hooked up yet.

If the sender is not hooked up, the gauge will still move. When you turn on the ignition, the needles should move like a sixteenth of an inch to register at 0.

installed everything except the sender, which should be going in this weekend. yay.

do not use Teflon tape....the senders are usually grounded through their threads....buy a thread SEALANT not thread lock

You can use teflon tape. The threads will cut into the tape as you tighten them, which will allow it to make a ground connection. My advice would be to do what Tiwing said. Even with the right fittings, I had a b**** of a time getting the HUGE Autometer sender to fit nicely in that tight little area.

well, i got the sender installed today with the help of my mazdasport buddies. all we touched was the sender today, cause i had already hooked up everything else. the needle never moved before installing the sender. once we hooked the sender up to the block, i turned the key and the needle moved to 0, but stays at 0. it just sits at 0. we made sure everything was connected properly, and everything is connected right. no leaks, cables are right, but just gets 0. i took the car for a spin around the block, and after a minute or so, i got a CEL. no clue why i got the CEL. we investigate the car again, no leaks or anything. no burning oil smell. that sender is for sure in their properly. so i do the ecu reset trick, take off the negative, and pump the brakes. then we call it a nite, so i drive home, i got no CEL. the drive home was about 15-20 min drive. i also get no oil light. i was curious about the light, is it supposed to come on? the stock sender, we zip tied. and we put the o/p gauge sender right into the block. we have no clue what the problem is. we just know it sits at 0. any ideas as to whats wrong? we are clueless.

So you finally decided against the T fitting idea eh? Good on ya! no idea why you got a CEL cause the oil light is not linked to the engine computer in any way. The reason your gauge may not be working is that you might either have a blockage in the baffle hole (the teeny pinhole on the sender) or it's a wiring problem. Make sure you put the three wires (Signal, GND and IGN) to the proper ones. Messing them up can blow the gauge. Also check that there is no teflon tape or anything on the sender threads. There needs to be bare metal contact so it can ground itself. Check those and you should be fine. As for the CEL, did you unplug anything to get to the sender / manifold bracket? It shouldn't come on.

nope, nothing else got touched except the sender, we did use teflon tape. so it might be that causing the gauge not to come on. all connections are properly hooked up. so its gotta be something with the sender.

Ya man, take off the teflon tape so it can ground itself, and also check that the hole isn't plugged. it's really small.

well, i got a CEL again yesterday. i still have no clue of what it might be.

heres the CEL reading i got:

P0325 - Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Malfunction

the only reason i can think of that would give me that CEL, would be because i accidently bought a higher octane gas. i normally always buy 87, the cheap s***. but i accidently bought 89 a couple days ago. but that shouldnt throw a CEL!

any ideas?

I run 89 in my kaar i nthe summer. No problem, but the CEL is not elated most likely. Any news on the sender malfunction?
