Hi all!

I own a 2002 Protege5 (midnight blue) and I'm pretty new to any sort of modifications to cars. Would you all be so incredibly kind as to give me inexpensive (relatively) suggestions on how I can pull more power out of my car with some mods? I threw a K&N air filter in but that's not really going to cut it.

I was hoping to get recommendations of easy-to-install CAI, dual exhaust (or better breathing singles), and maybe other things I hadn't thought of as well as brands you've used and where you bought them.

I know this is a lot to ask, but I've been reading this BB for a long time and you guys all rock.

Thanks so much!

How much you looking to spend? From what Ive heard theres an Ebay CAI for like 60 bucks, same as Injen, but in the Injen you get a little, 1-2hp gain, but you save like 160 bucks. Not to positive on how many dual exhausts are out there, but you can always buy a muffler thats dual. or just get a Turbo. Is yours manual or automatic?

My car's a manual transmission (automatic kills a car). I'd love to get another 30-50 horsepower out of the car. My friend's got an Acura RSX and it kills me to see the difference in his acceleration when compared to mine. I can beat his ass in the curves, but off-the-line, the 130hp the 2.0L produces just doesn't compete.

you can do the ideal intake, exhaust, and headers upgrades.. plus swap your current ecu for an mp3 ecu (it supposedly gives 10hp)

It's not 130hp.

And if automatic "killed" a car Ferrari would not offer clutchless tranny cars.

Welcome to the site, the only wat to add real horse power to the P5 is to add a turbo.

Though it's all a matter of semantics, I'm pretty sure Ferrari would crap themselves if you called their cars "automatics." Definitely a different ballgame then your standard 4-speed affair, I would have to say... thanks for the advice on the turbo, tho'.

And for a little more semantic argument, Mazda lists the 2.0L as being 130HP for 2002 in the engine. SAE would list the at-wheel horsepower to probably bounce somewhere between 90-105... stock.

Oh, a 2002......I have a 2003, I thought my car had 145?

I have the sportronic style shifter and I love it (yes I have owned countless manual cars in my life).

well, 30 hp wont be easy to come by. getting the i/h/e will free up about 15-20. that will make your car a bit funner to drive. throw in an injen, awr header, some sort of hi flow cat, and whichever catback you pick.

also, you might want to think about awr motor mounts, to make your shifts, and launches smoother. they will stop your motor from rocking back and forth.

No Prob bud, my parents have been calling me C J since I was a baby.

I am the III, My dad goes by Charles or Charlie, My grandfather was "the General" because he was a brig. General. My son (Charles J. Hodge IV) is going by Joseph.
