headliner mod

You can get the vinyl fabric duplicolor paint at any Autozone, shucks, or Napa. It says vinyl fabric paint on the can. It will be different for you since you have a sedan but all you have to do is basically:

Step 1:
take off your sunvisors in the front(three screws total)

Step 2:
take off your "Oh crap" handles(one screw at each end which are covered with a cap to line up with your handle).

Step 3:
Pull back top of A, B, and C pillars. They are just snapped into the frame of the car. In some cases you might have to take the pillars completally off which would involve un-bolting your front seat belts, taking off lower B pillars, and taking off bottom sill covers. All which just snap in also. Some have some of those snap clips though.

Step 4:
take out dome light. Pop off lense cover with flat head screw driver, remove screws that are under lense, and unclip wire harness.

Step 5:
Remove headliner. It would be handy to have a second person to help you with this. With the P5's you remove the headliner out the rear hatch, but with the sedans you have to remove it out one of the rear doors. Don't be afraid to bend the headliner a little bit. It will appear to crinkle but they come out and are not shown once returned to normal shape.

Step 6:
If your headliner is dirty wash with a soap soaked rag and let dry before painting. Like I said I did four layers of paint which aquired the shade of black I wanted, which took four cans of paint. For you sedans it will probably only take 2-3 cans. Also they sell several different colors of this vinyl fabric paint to match your interior color or preference.

Yeah, good job Dan! I saw this in person on Sunday and have to say it looks damn good. I couldn't even tell it was painted, looks OEM. Now all you have to do is the visors! =) I'm gonna have to have you give me a hand with this once I get ready to do my carpet.

Yah let me know when you want to do it. I think I am going to leave the sunvisors they way they are. I like the contrast and I don't think those or the oh s*** handles would take the paint very well.

Damn it, why did I have to stumble across this thread. With my black & blue paint scheme this would look awesome in my car.

damn it ,damn it, damn it!

BTW it looks good.

Common! ya know ya wanna(glare)(poke) lol

Its very easy. I took an hour or so after work one day(by myself) and did all the labor of removing it, then did the painting the next few days, and then took only an hour or less to put it back in on the weekend after it dried. Plus you being in Arizona in all you won't have to wait as long as I did for the paint to dry. Even with my freezing ass garage it only took about a half hour to dry.

the oh s*** handles as you call them should take the paint if you scuff them with a scuff pad and get some adhesion promoter, should work fine. as for the visors don't know because i cant remember how they were because i had tv's put in mine and had the same fabric as the liner put in.

Yah I know. It would wear out to easily in time though, aspecially because of the ammount of people I am constantly driving around. Plus I like the contrast.

Yah, this mod will defenately be easier for you sedan owners out there
takes me like..15 minutes at most to pull that out.lol..i guess it's because i have taken the car apart too many times to count.

Yah it doesn't even take that long for the P5's either, 20min. max. Most of the time is spent painting.

Thanks for posting the other pictures. Hmm I'm going to have to go get some paint next payday.

To all who do this mod post up pics when your done. BTW its about $4-$5 per can.

I brain farted and only got 2 cans today. I should go out and get 2 more cans later tonight.

Yah, it took me four cans. It takes about a can per coat for the P5's and I did four coats.

just did this yesterday. the headliner looks awesome even tho i haven't gotten it back in yet.

i'm thinkin i might wanna put a 5th can on. duplicolor has the most retardedly designed can and paint kept getting puddled up inside the rim of the can and then dripping on the headliner. i got a few spots that you can tell that happened.

i also wanna paint all the pillars black and maybe my visors red. my girl's an art major so i run all my color ideas past her first haha.

i'll get pics up once i'm done.
