doesn't matter. you need to unlock it through steam if you buy it from a store... basically you got a box/manual/cds early, but still no ability to play...
Nope never heard that, though that can be really bad for Best Buy or any retailer that releases it early. They can if the publisher feels like it pull their items out of the store for a time period or fine the company. This happen to EB once for selling Lord of the Rings early, they had all the production companies pulled for a month least from that store.
Half life has yanked it from all their shelves regardless. It's no different though then purchasing it through steam. You can have it on your pc, but you have no executable until it's unlocked. Knowing our luck, the heavy load at midnight will crash their content servers for 3 days

I probably won't sleep for the next 3 days. I'm really hoping they port TFC on the source engine, because god knows TF2 is never coming out. I'm pretty sure TF2 was just used to help hide the developement of HL2. Ok so how many of you guys have played Half-Life or any of its mods pretty often over the last 5 years? I wonder if being good at HLDM and TFC will help me to be good at HL2.

CS is already on the source engine. I don't know if tf will be on it. I still think the HL version never did meet the standards of the orignal on the quake engine.
I loved the original hl deathmatch, as well as the first few beta counter strikes. Firearms and front line force were both pretty good as well.
It will be interesting to see if HL2 can spur up the PC gaming community as much as the orignal. I feel that the pc section of gaming has been a bit stagnant lately. Doom3 and UT have both fallen short imo. Here's hoping

simply put, best game of the year, perhaps one of the best I've played ever. It is the ONLY game ever, besides the original, that I have played through more then once.
Now, I wasn't one of these hl2 fan boys that read and followed every article before it's release. I never do this. I wait until the game is out, and let the game impress or not impress me as I play it...no expectations before hand. I don't by into hype.
But, this game has the best atmosphere, best gameplay (single player), kick ass graphics, and is so unique with it's physics engine and variety throughout the game... I loved it.
