I was on my way back from a shopping trip to cabelas Saturday and I took the long way back... through the back roads... and I was on a long straight section of road leading to a mountain when I see this red truck go flying through a stop sign and onto the road about 500ft in front of me (asshole). He saw me coming and apparently wanted to be sure he was in front of me (I guess so I wouldn't slow him down?). I was already driving a a quick but safe pace, so I just continued moving the same speed, and this brought me up to about 100ft behind him as he got up to speed. A few hundred feet later we got to the the twisty section of turns that climb up the mountain (most turns are marked 15 or 25mph, and there's about 30 turns on each side of the mountain). I was kind shocked when I didn't have to cut my pace AT ALL for this guy. He was absolutely defying physics. He obviously was a local and drove that road very often. I've never seen a truck, no less a 4wd F250 super duty, go that fast on a windy road before. I backed off another couple hundred feet, for two reasons... first being I didn't want him to think I was racing him, second being that I wanted to be far enough behind him that I wouldn't be involved if he stuffed it into a tree during his constant state of chaos. On the downside of the mountain he slowed back to reality, probably because his brakes couldn't take anymore... or maybe because he wanted to see how far behind him I was and If I would catch up. I maintained my gap. I didn't want him thinking he won something. I could have stayed right behind him the entire time... but I don't street race... and my wife was with me (and I don't drive unnecessarily fast when I have others in the car).
Not that I ever plan on buying a truck for fast driving... but I have a feeling this is going to be one of those things I never forget. Truly amazed me. I'll be telling my grandkids about this one in 50 years. The crazy guy in the red truck.
Just thought I'd share.
