Had a surprising encounter with an F250...lol...

I was on my way back from a shopping trip to cabelas Saturday and I took the long way back... through the back roads... and I was on a long straight section of road leading to a mountain when I see this red truck go flying through a stop sign and onto the road about 500ft in front of me (asshole). He saw me coming and apparently wanted to be sure he was in front of me (I guess so I wouldn't slow him down?). I was already driving a a quick but safe pace, so I just continued moving the same speed, and this brought me up to about 100ft behind him as he got up to speed. A few hundred feet later we got to the the twisty section of turns that climb up the mountain (most turns are marked 15 or 25mph, and there's about 30 turns on each side of the mountain). I was kind shocked when I didn't have to cut my pace AT ALL for this guy. He was absolutely defying physics. He obviously was a local and drove that road very often. I've never seen a truck, no less a 4wd F250 super duty, go that fast on a windy road before. I backed off another couple hundred feet, for two reasons... first being I didn't want him to think I was racing him, second being that I wanted to be far enough behind him that I wouldn't be involved if he stuffed it into a tree during his constant state of chaos. On the downside of the mountain he slowed back to reality, probably because his brakes couldn't take anymore... or maybe because he wanted to see how far behind him I was and If I would catch up. I maintained my gap. I didn't want him thinking he won something. I could have stayed right behind him the entire time... but I don't street race... and my wife was with me (and I don't drive unnecessarily fast when I have others in the car).

Not that I ever plan on buying a truck for fast driving... but I have a feeling this is going to be one of those things I never forget. Truly amazed me. I'll be telling my grandkids about this one in 50 years. The crazy guy in the red truck.

Just thought I'd share.

So one a**hole follows another a**hole. joking . Yeah, you don't want to risk your passengers life. I don't drive fast as often as I use to anymore. I get enough tailgaters to have fun with lol.

Sounds like a fun road to drive. I'd like to take my Ram on that road. You might be surprised to learn how big pickups handle with just a few tweaks. The RSB on my Ram has made a tremendous difference in the handling. It's pretty nimble for 5,500# or so.

chevy trailblazer ss has better 0-60 and 1/4 mile times than a mazdaspeed3 as well. there are plenty of fast trucks out there, and even bigger dickheads that think they own the road that drive them

and i guess if that 250 had a towing package of some sort that had extra stiff suspension and components it probably does have pretty good handling

Might it be that RCSB in your avatar? :D Here's my QCSB.

Most trucks usually have little body roll because they have stiff suspension for towing. Although I still laugh at the assholes that drive them like they are sportscars.

If you get out handled by a truck your car is either broken or your driving needs evaluation. (not referring to the thread starter)

lol. Yeah this guy was an a-hole. His truck was literally on the edge of flipping over on every turn. I saw him get it on 2 wheel at least 4 times.

My dad has a Ram 1500 "sport" that I drove a few times back when it was new. It wasn't fast, but it handled ok. I think the "sport" they were referring to was hunting, or maybe fishing.

mebbe his idea of an uber-cool sleeper car is a truck stuffed w/ all sorts of suspension mods & the like. who knows what lurks under other people's sheet metal? (detect)

i'm sure ppl have done it, but to me it's a challenge to physics: center of gravity too high, excessive weight, live rear axle, you name it. still, throw enough parts at it and you can get a street-worthy sports truck, but again, to me it's not a game worth playing- there's better returns on other vehicles [read: cars] (drive2) (p5red)

Sort of funny... yesterday my sister bought an 01 mazda tribute with the 2.0L 4-cyl, 5 speed, and AWD. That would be an interesting sleeper truck. It's basically a fat, tall ford escort ZX2 with awd. With some suspension upgrades and a turbo it would definitely be an interesting truck, but she probably won't do anything to it. Too bad it's not one of the newer ones with the 2.0L MZR. I despise timing belts.
